Exclusive October Dormitory Diary Entry: Kimura (Patreon)

This is my exclusive dormitory diary entry for October.

On the work side of things, I’ve been focused on company projects this month. We have something scheduled to air this next Spring, so it looks like I’ll be working on it for a while longer. This is the first time I’ve ever worked on a single project for this long. It’s nice because, due to the project’s length, I’ve been allowed the time to better grasp the show’s specific features and atmosphere. Compared to what I was drawing before, it feels like my skills are progressing nicely.

I’ve also learned exactly how hard it is to animate the movement of held objects thanks to a sword-fighting project. Making sure the shape of the sword's hilt stays consistent through the in-betweens is tough, doubly so if the hilt has a pattern. I feel like I’ve improved a lot since drawing this stuff, though. I’ve found that it helps to imagine the layout from eye level while drawing.

I’m on the search for ways to make drawing easier, so I’ve been doing a ton of practice drawing hands.
