Hi Everyone!

I see a lot of people joined the Patreon after we showed off the Game Over screens from last week. Welcome!

The next playable patron release will be next Friday on the 30th of July. So keep your eyes peeled for that date.

This week I've got some gameplay-focused progress to share. Let's get into it!

1: What's New

3 Minute Walkthrough Video

A few patrons did request a new video showing off a walkthrough of the current state of the game. So I've done ahead and recorded a fresh one:

You can find it here.

Attack Effects and Stunned State

The first thing I focused on this week was making the art for an "Attack" effect and then getting it into Unity.

In the current builds there's no visual communication of you attacking other then a jolt in the character model. I wanted to make act of Interacting and attacking be more responsive.

I think even this relatively simple effect goes a long way of showing your input doing something on screen.

The other thing I worked on this week was making the art for a "Stunned" state and getting the art into the game and coding in the logic for it.

A "Stunned" state occurs when the player character is hit by an enemy attack. It communicates that a successful hit has happened to the player.

The stunned state flashes for half a second and no additional damage can be taken for 1 second.

The player can still move to escape further damage but cannot attack back while stunned.

Here's the art I made for these states this week:

More Stamina Logic:

Stamina continues to recharge over-time. But an additional charge now occurs when the player moves to the beat.

The gameplay experience I want to craft in terms of the beat is less of a "Do it perfect or die" and more of a "You get resources to help you if you play to the beat" and I think additional charge of stamina you get for doing that will work well.

2: What's Next

For the final week of July I'll be focusing on more player character interaction improvements. I want to see if I can make a "Movement" sprite and if it works with the current movement system.

Hope you're looking forward to the next build!

Cheers!
