Hi, This is Muchi.

I've decided that our doujinshi series, PSS, would surely look great if the heroines were dressed in outfits resembling warriors, mages, priests, and elven female characters from role-playing games. I imagine our fans would enjoy that.😋

Then, I began to ponder.🧐

There are numerous works worldwide that delve into the realm of swords and magic, including classics like Dungeons & Dragons, Wizardry, and The Lord of the Rings, to name a few.

However, in Japan, the world of swords and magic has been made more accessible to the Japanese people through the work of Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, who designed Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior). As a result, for the Japanese, the world of swords and magic is deeply rooted in the worldview and character designs of Dragon Quest.

While Final Fantasy has also exerted considerable influence, it leans more towards science fiction and differs slightly from the traditional swords and magic setting.

Therefore, conversely, I've become curious about which works leave a lasting impression on people outside Japan when they think of the world of swords and magic. It likely varies from country to country and may differ across generations.

What is the origin of the swords and magic world as you envision it?

And do these worlds feature captivating female characters and distinctive costumes?

Ah, yes! I'd love to see Itsuha-chan in such a cosplay, too...!😍

Good question! I live in the US and when I think of fantasy or swords and magic, I think of series like Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, The Dark Crystal, and, although I haven't watched nor read it, Game of Thrones. The works of Moebius also come to mind, but his work was moreso science fiction. I grew up in the 1990s watching Dragon Ball / Z and reading about Dragon Quest in gaming magazines, so Akira Toriyama's character designs are also what I think of when I think of fantasy / swords and magic. Thanks for the update!
