Hi, This is Muchi.

Since a few years ago, opportunities to eat yaki-imo(baked sweet potato🍠) have become very common in Japan.

Especially in Japan, yaki-imo is preferred on cold days, so you will see yaki-imo especially in winter.

You can find yaki-imo at convenience stores, discount stores, supermarkets, and even pharmacies. I have become accustomed to this sight. But when I rethink about it, I think it is a very strange sight. Japan is quietly experiencing its first sweet potato boom in 50 years.

There are several possible reasons for this, one of which is the birth of the easy-to-use electronic yaki-imo oven. In Japan, sweet potatoes are sometimes baked directly in the oven, but "Ishiyaki Imo," in which sweet potatoes are heated with heated stones, is also mainstream. The sweetness of the sweet potato is enhanced by the far-infrared radiation effect of the stone.

Often a stone is heated in a machine like the one above, and sweet potatoes are placed on top of it.

Another reason is that a wide variety of sweet potato varieties have been created. In the past, sweet potatoes used to have the same texture as other potatoes, but now there are varieties that have a texture like cream or even melt like honey.

And the sweetness is as if sugar is kneaded into them. Some people even find the recent sweet potatoes too sweet for their liking.

Even if you put them in the freezer, they do not freeze because of their high sugar content, so you can even make a dessert called chilled baked sweet potato.

I eat them every day because they are healthy and nutritious. Thanks to you, I've gotten pretty good at baking sweet potatoes in the oven!

The English translation of Pure Scheming Slut 2 will be out soon!

Sorry for the huge delay, but I hope you enjoy it!

That's funny because in the US, there's a burger fast food chain called Wendy's and they sell baked potatoes. I've seen people buy baked potatoes in the winter and use them as hand warmers because they stay hot for a very long time. lol

There are several Wendy's stores in Japan. It once withdrew from Japan, but has re-entered the country. But perhaps, the menu is totally different from the American one. I'd like to visit once!
