I've been thinking that was endgame since way back when Rain was in the starting city and found the system terminal, since he's seemingly the only person able to interface with the ancient technology.

So... Can anyone clarify what they're here for? Rain came to fix his paling, right? Are they delving so he can refill on high quality essence or are they going to level up, or both ?

Essence is both the building material for soul stuff and used up to create mana/stamina/health. The system paling will attempt to maintain a persons total essence count at a number based on total spent XP (from level and skill tree unlocks). Rain is on a timer to upgrade his soul into rank 25+ soul material. A unit of rank 0 soul stuff is one essence, rank 1 is 2, rank 2 is 4 and so on. This means a single unit of rank 25 soul stuff has 65 million essence stuffed in it. Back at the whale fight Rain was full at his system cap of 3 billion essence. He then burnt through alot of that during the fight. He has struggled to build back up to it. This is due to low essence availability on surface and need to spend essence earning XP to unlock all the skill trees. He will probably need to go even further, as his max XP will only give him around a 16 billion essence cap, or 250ish rank 25 soul. This means using ram-scoops to push his essence count beyond what the system thinks he should have. So the system paling will be activley trying to leek out this over essence. At least I think so, not sure we know how all this will work out. Grannybrain said "you should find a highly ranked zone in which to restore yourself periodically until you stabilize" So he needs a high ranked zone with a ton of free essence to be able to achive that in his 3 month time limit.
