Heisei ‘Kunin’ Godzilla | Titanus Sandaime Gojira

The Northern King

“You want to apologise? Very well then, take Ririn’s crown as he wished. Fuse with his power and beat the creature who tormented my son for his entire life into bloody submission. Teach him what it means to face a True Godzilla.”

The 3rd King in Monarch’s records, reigning from his territories in the North-Western Pacific Ocean like his predecessor. He was known for being particularly aggressive in the early years of his reign before this trait gradually faded as a result of the birth of his first son, Junior, to an unknown mother.

While training his young heir, Heisei Godzilla entered an alliance with the Kosei (Crystal) Godzilla’s and made her his Queen with Mothra’s blessing. This action angered a lot of the other Godzilla clans and he was openly challenged by MireGoji and YoroiGoji. Although MireGoji backed down from the challenge after speaking with Mothra, Yoroi Gojira continuously challenged Heisei.

Yoroi Gojira continuously lost to Heisei, refusing to accept defeat until Rozan stepped in and fought Yoroi herself. Yoroi held nothing to the Kosei Godzilla and Rozan made sure that he would remember her lessons by trapping him in a crystal prison and enclosing it so that it broke most of his limbs. Heisei was initially opposed to the violent actions however reconciled that they were necessary as Yoroi would not have learnt otherwise.

With no more opposition to the alliance, Heisei and Rozan sired a son, Ririn, with the intention that he would become the first of a long line of “Super Godzilla’s”. Ririn however was born too small with a crippling, terminal illness and it was clear that he wouldn’t survive long. Heisei abandoned the idea of a new powerful SuperGodzilla race and turned his attention to ruling the Earth and raising Junior while Rozan refused to give up on Ririn and sought to raise him, despite his disadvantages.

Junior was sadly killed by Desghidorah shortly after this and Heisei had been too late to save him before chasing the Ghidorah off world. This failure created loss of faith in Heisei as King and the other Gojira’s began to challenge him even more fiercely. King Kong was even furious enough to leave Skull Island and go hunting for Heisei.

Distraught, Heisei went to find Rozan, only to find that she had been killed by MUTO’s and their son Ririn was nowhere to be found. Desperate, Heisei began looking for his son however this was postponed when Gamera informed him that there were rumours that the extinct Shin Clan, a particularly violent and destructive caste of Godzilla’s was resurging in the Northern Pacific.

Horrified at the thought of the truly violent Shin clan reemerging after they had been exterminated by the other Godzilla Clans millions of years ago, Heisei quickly went to confirm the rumour, only to find Yoroi had lied and spread said rumour to lure Heisei to him. He had lured him to an island covered in ice, exploiting Heisei’s weakness to it while Yoroi’s thick hide and armour was impervious.

Unfairly matched, Heisei was beaten and thrown into a collapsing glacier. Before he was frozen however, Yoroi revealed that he was a distant descendant of the Shin clan to which Heisei laughed, calling him a puppy compared to a pure blooded Shin Gojira. Heisei noted that the Shin Clan were called Gods of Destruction for a reason.

They had caused everything on the Earth except themselves to go extinct in their violence and it took one of their own betraying them to defeat them. Only then, after that final victorious Gojira had died, had Earth begun to recover and fought back against it’s less powerful descendants. Heisei noted that in a way, all of the Gojira clans were descended from that one True, Godly, King of the Monsters. Yoroi, he had sneered, had clearly gotten the weakest genes of this True Godzilla’s power.

Yoroi ignored this taunt and went on to inform Heisei that he had sent MUTO’s to kill Rozan and that Ririn had survived the attack. Yoroi vowed to find the boy and crush him with his own bare hands as Heisei’s final failure and as revenge for Heisei and Rozan humiliating him. Heisei was enraged but could do nothing as the glacier entombed him and he was left frozen for decades.

Years before SpaceGodzilla, or rather, his son’s return to Earth, Heisei awoke to find the glacier around him melted. Rather than going to immediately track down Yoroi and kill him for stealing his throne, he instead sought out Gamera who kept his reawakening a secret to all except a small few. He was happy to learn that Ririn had survived Yoroi’s attacks however the child had fled to space to escape and it was uncertain what had happened to him. He was also horrified to learn that a pure descendant of the True Godzilla had survived and was slowly regaining his original form. All of the other Godzilla clans had mostly gone into hiding because of this.

He was amused to learn that Yoroi had tried to fight this new King and had been almost beaten to death with this attempt. Gamera noted that this ‘Shin Godzilla’ was still a baby and the true extent of it’s true horrifying powers were yet to emerge.

Over the next few years, Heisei had been to seed uncertainty in Yoroi’s rule, slowly undermining it until Ririn returned to Earth. Gamera went to try and calm Ririn and tell him the truth about his father, however was shocked to find him being manipulated by a Dark Ultraman, Belial. Gamera did manage to get somewhat through to him however as Ririn did send MechaGodzilla to try and find Heisei.

Heisei, realising the danger Ririn was in, raced to find his son, only to find out too late when he arrived at Fukuoka. Ririn had become completely brainwashed and from what he could sense, completely insane from the mutation forced upon him. He was also greeted to the presence of Shin Gojira, who had been waiting for him off the coast of Japan.

Despite the stories, Heisei found the ShinGoji intelligent, calm and most surprisingly of all awaiting his orders. When questioned why, Shin Gojira informed him that Ririn was his son after all. He had arrived here with the intention to kill Ririn upon seeing him however had waited when he realised that Heisei was the boy’s father and had higher authority to deal with him.

Heisei, although surprised, was more concerned with Ririn than to be afraid of Shin and asked Shin to distract his son, but avoid hurting him, while Heisei fought the Dark Ultraman. While Shin charged at the insane Ririn, Heisei proceeded to make his way through the forest of crystal which tried to drain his energy. Rozan had taught him how to convert the crystals from a Kosei Gojira however and the crystals only proceeded to power him up. He was distracted however when Ririn’s crystals pierced Shin Gojira’s tail and chopped the appendage clean off sending Shin Gojira Berserk and attacking Ririn without restraint while Heisei watched on horrified.

The technique Heisei had used to convert the crystal was observed and put into practice by Zero and Geed who had been trapped by Ririn. Ultraman Belial, furious at this, attempted to command Ririn to his side to fight, but Heisei lunged at him and bit the hand that held Ririn’s crown forcing him to drop it while Geed and Zero fought off Belial.

Ririn, now free of Belial’s influence and at the mercy of a now enraged Shin Gojira, could only scream in horror and terror before desperately trying to flee. Shin however lunged at Ririn and shattered both his shoulder crystals with his photon beams while Heisei desperately tried to pull Shin Gojira off of Ririn. Shin Gojira turned on Heisei snapped at him, his jaws snapping at him like a rabid animal.

Ririn, despite his own pain, stopped struggling against Shin upon seeing Heisei recognising his father. This proved to be a grave mistake as Shin’s foot came down hard on Ririn’s chest and collapsed causing Ririn to scream in horror and choke up blood, now fatally wounded.

Ririn’s scream caused Shin to stop and snap out of his enraged state, realising what he had done as Heisei roared at him and threw him off Ririn. Shin did not resist Heisei’s full body slam as what he had done set in. He staggered, unbalanced due to his lack of tail and watched as Heisei desperately tried to help his son.

Ririn, despite his wounds, reassured his father that he had always known that Shin Gojira would be the one to kill him and asked Heisei to give Shin his crown. Heisei objected however Ririn retorted that if he didn’t, Shin would go berserk and do something like this again. Realising this Heisei nodded and promised. Ririn asked his father’s real name to which Heisei responded: Kunin.

After this Ririn became incoherent and delirious from blood loss, the crystal towers around them dissolving into golden sparks. It wasn’t until Ririn began hallucinating his mother, Rozan, that Heisei completely broke down. Ririn passed away asking for Rozan in his father’s grasp a few minutes after Shin had dealt the fatal blow.

Heisei and Shin watched as Ririn’s body dissolved into golden spores and floated up into the sky. Shin, deeply upset that he had lost control and caused Ririn’s death apologised to Heisei Godzilla. He was however interrupted by Yoroi Gojira who was manically laughing at Heisei’s despair.

Enraged, Heisei glared at Yoroi before turning to Shin and handing him Ririn’s crown, the only thing that remained of the SpaceGodzilla, his son.

“You want to apologise? Very well then, take Ririn’s crown as he wished. Fuse with his power and beat the creature who tormented my son for his entire life into bloody submission. Teach him what it means to face a True Godzilla.”

Shin looked at the crown then to Yoroi Goji who now looked utterly terrified.

“As you wish.”
