It's all fine. Nothing to worry about.

Neither is me flipping through the book.

I'm not looking up anything you need to be concerned about.

That is never a good thing...

Crushogre

Sometimes you roll the dice for no reason just to keep them on their toes.

AstroChaos

When in doubt, randomly roll some dice, take a deep breath through your teeth, and look concerned.

Anonymous

Sometimes when I run a game, I'll roll the dice for no reason at all, or when players roll just average on a check for traps where I know there isn't one I'll say "you're... pretty sure?.. that there's no trap here"

Stephen Gilberg

"Are you rolling dice?" "No, you're seeing things."

Otter Annason

one of my favorite autistic stims is fiddling with dice, so much so that if i DM, everyone just gets used to it until i throw the first initiative die around the screen to announce an encounter

Ed Abrams (aka The Superdak)

Rolling dice and flipping pages for absolutely no reason whatsoever on the regular is just good technique for any GM.

wargrunt42

Little did they know the abandoned mine was abandoned from a purple worm infestation, which was bad news for the chicken stealing goblin cultists and even worse news for our unsuspecting heroes.

wargrunt42

*mystically waves hand* These aren't the dice you're looking for.

The traps are easy to find, impossible to disarm, and cover the only retreat path from an obvious arena fight? Oh, that's a good sign.

allanfranta

The only KNOWN retreat path, if I was DM. Make it up to the Bards Knowledge to recognize the room from a old song etc.

KC

Hehehe! I see Ellen's picked up the DM's most feared tactic: rolling dice at a seemingly random interval

KC

Exactly! Can't have them thinking you've gotten predictable!

KC

And if you REALLY want to freak them out you occasionally throw in a random "Ooo! That's interesting!" instead

AstroChaos

Yeah, that works too. Even just a rather puzzled "Huh..." can do wonders. The trick with any of them is to not oversell it. The moment they think you are making is seem dramatic intentionally you lose most of the effect 😁

Some Ed

It's the only retreat path that isn't further into the mine, where only their opposition knows what dangers lurk.

Some Ed

I used the Fibonacci sequence with psuedo-random resets (basically, whenever I forgot what number I was on.) Every that many sentences, dice roll.
