I am devoting this week to getting ahead with EGS:NP and story comics, and it has been going well. I am working with the goal of getting 4 comics ahead in each section, and I am well on my way to reaching that goal.

The reason for this, aside from the obvious benefits of a buffer, is to be a week +1 ahead so that nothing is last minute, and I can optimize production. With that buffer in place, I should easily have time to make images for here and sketchbooks for the site, and if something unexpected happens, I can count on having a weekend to help recover.

Currently, I have EGS:NP comics and commentaries done through Monday, 3 more EGS:NPs written that I intend to make on Thursday, and I have five story comics partly done that I intend to fully finish tomorrow.

Should all go well, after this week, I can go back to making 3 of each a week and still be more than a week ahead, and I can make them in a way that's faster than if I have to completely finish each of them in one day.

Sounds like a good plan, Dan! I work with two other webcomic artists, and one keeps a ~2 week buffer, while the other tries to keep a buffer, but rarely succeeds. The long buffer helps sooo much!

Really, a 2 week buffer would be better. I consider a 4 comic buffer to basically be the minimum to make this work. Making the buffer bigger is easier once you actually have it, though.

The secret is work much longer hours than normal for one week and leave room to rest a bit after.
