Hi there!

Anna again, reporting on the Mission: Chalet!

As you may know, we’re very busy with the chalet video these days. Sadly, some secrets (including the date of the video) cannot be revealed yet, but we’re making good progress and we’re very excited to see all that shaping up.

Right now, we’re integrating new objects, testing the build mode, fixing bugs related to features and to the object modding tools. These last tweaking steps can feel like we’re all on every front at once, fixing things and breaking things all at the same time, but it’s also really motivating to see all of it coming together!

Here is a little sneak peek at some fresh new objects. You might recognize them from the sketch Léa made a few weeks ago:

Here’s what Léa’s sketch looked like, as a reminder:

One very cool thing about this living room is its couch, which allows us to introduce a feature: modular objects.

This L-shaped couch is made of 4 pieces that are the same object in the catalog. For each of this piece, there are 4 parts that can be toggled on or off independently: the pillow and the three bolsters. It allows you to make cool custom combinations! You will also be able to choose different swatches for those 4 pieces, as you can see in the picture above.

I bring you some of my alternative ideas for a chaotic living room to illustrate this better:

(Disclaimer: these couch configurations were created for fun, some of them might not be entirely functional. We are working on a way to alert players when this will be the case)

This feature will allow us and modders to create other types of combinations, for example, a bowl of fruits with different types of fruits inside, a shelf that can come both with and without premade objects inside, or even plant in different pots. The kitchen cabinets that you already saw in this video work the same way: in this case, the handle is not an optional object, but there are different options for them. We could also have premade groups of objects for people who don’t want to assemble their couch themselves

These couch assets and their parts combination settings were integrated into the game thanks to our mod tools. Then, when placing and snapping together the couch objects in-game, the customization interface (not captured here) lets you choose which part (bolsters, cushions) to put or not. And voilà!

What do you think? Do you have ideas of modular objects that this feature would open new horizons to? Tell us in the comments!

With this, I wish you a beary good week-end!

Anna

Can you make it so you can choose to give the couch a back or not?

Charmen Young

I absolutely love this! I get more and more excited for this game with each post!

Anonymous

What about modular pillows? :0 love the couches!!

Anonymous

It looks so cool!!

Jennifer Huber

I cannot even begin to say how thrilled I am!! The details you are adding to the game make it so amazing!

Zahlea

WOW! Just WOW!!! 🤯 The optional objects is such an amazing feature. This will allow for such variety in furniture, even with just a few objects. Amazing!

Elizabeth Gonzales

I love this! This is amazing! I'm so stoked for this game!

Anonymous

All looks great! I'm just not sure I understand one thing well. Will I be able to choose pillows and bolsters only when I place the couch? Can I add them or adjust the amount later?

Anonymous

Dem Tetris pieces, i love it

BreakingGaia

In the first of the 4 pictures, the one where all the couches are facing each other and there is a laptop on one of the seats...would that configuration be usable? Would the para climb over to sit or relax? That's a feature I'd love...being able to make a family lounge room.

BekkiRoss

Amazing 🤩🤩🤩

ladyteruki

Have I died ? Is this heaven ?!

Anonymous

We don't know yet, all of these are build mode tests but the details of the playability of it all (especially the chaotic couches) remains unknown :)

Anonymous

When placing a couch element, you can choose to add or remove the bolsters and back pillow, but they're pre-placed for you, on the contrary to the laptop item for example that is a standalone item that you can place on a table or anywhere for example. Here the bolsters are not standalone objects, they're parts of the couch objects (but can be removed). Hope that makes more sense!

Anonymous

Fab-u-lous! 😍😍

Anonymous

There's no back at the moment for this particular couch, only bolsters. But there could be one yes!

Bleeb90

This picture makes me so ridiculously happy <3

Anonymous

I'm so excited that we'll be able to mix it up and still make all the furniture match!

Anonymous

It's cool! Not a fan of the style but I think your executing it well :)

Kaitlyn Metro

Great work team! I would really love to see modular desks as well

AmorFati

While I do hope some of the more "chaotic" options are usable, I wouldn't mind too much if it's just "aesthetics" :) Anyway, I love the idea of modular furniture, can't wait to see more of this feature in the future.

Aaron J Levesque

I have one question! I love love love the modular couch and am wondering if you make an L Shaped couch will Paras be able to lay on the L shaped parts as you would in real life? I know this may be hard to program and such but it would be a cute detail! Just wondering! Proud of your work!

Anonymous

I hope there is an option to move "the compleete couch" after everything has toggled together.

Makayla Boyko

I was just thinking the same thing about modular desks. To add to this thought I was thinking like school desks either the ones where you lift the top up and put supplies in or the other style where it has a cut out on one side where you slide supplies in. I also had another thought and I know it's not really modular, but still a cool thought, but the desks that are attached to the chairs and can be raised to the side or lowered to be able to write on like you see in a lot of bigger university lecture halls. I don't know if schools are also going to be a rabbit hole or if they're eventually going to be more interactable, but it would still be really cool to be able to create a class room or study room.

TeKavia

Bro being able to actually use these couch designs would be AWESOME! I can just imagine a para climbing over to sit or lay down in the first of the 4 pictures. I CANNOT wait for this game to come out!😆

Mari R.

Ohhh i love this!! it makes everything so customizable, things wont look the same all the time. I wonder if the two desks on the center are also the same piece? just changed colors and size?

S&M Gonzalez

I love the whole aesthetic of the furniture especially the poufs will these be pillows that can use to lay on the floor with/sit on? I can’t wait to see the chalet when finished 😊

S&M Gonzalez

Ideas for modular i had: Different upholstery swatch designs (like buttoned, tufted, etc) on couches that can be applied to different parts of the couch. Cabinets and book shelf’s modular could work with option of doors, no doors, or one half has a door the other half is open. Then there could be different cabinet facing like wood, or glass face, blank, etc. All Windows and tables with glass could have different modular glass surface textures like frosted glass, beveled, non frosted, etc.

Aaron

It looks amazing!! I wasn’t as hyped that the chalet won at first, but now I’m so excited to see the final result! I love the cute clutter items so much :D Question about modular furniture: will the way it’s arranged change the way a para can interact with it/which animations they can use? For example, would they be able to lay down/stretch out their feel across both squares on the left side of that couch, or would they just be limited to sitting on the edge of one square? Also, I noticed there’s a round pillow chillin partly on two different sections of the couch—is that a separate item you can put on there or is it one of the items that can be toggled off? Same with the laptop—can you just add that later as a separate item or is it one of the options that comes with the couch, and is it functions? And also, will the pillow and the red blanket prevent a para from sitting on that spot, or will they just sit on it?

Anonymous

Those two tables are the same piece yes, one of them is scaled down and the color is different :)

Anonymous

You amaze me once again! I am sooo excited for this game! 🤩🤩😍

Anonymous

this is so amazing! I cannot wait to play! But surely, take your time it's been proven that is worth the wait. :)

alexmasse

Thank you! It would be really cool if Paras could lay on the couch like that. It's a bit of a technical challenge so we'll have to test and see if it's possible!

alexmasse

We don't currently have that but we plan to do something like it, otherwise it would be a pain to move the whole couch

warmestbloggerever

THIS GAME IS SO BEAUTIFUL. Honestly, whenever I see a video or image of it, I feel so calm! Great work, everyone!! Hope you're as proud of yourselves as I am of you! 😁

KittyPara

The rugs?

KittyPara

The tub and the shower could be modular?

alexmasse

Thank you! At first, Paras will be able to sit on the edge of the seat. Laying on two couch squares is more complicated but it's something that we might be able to do eventually The round pillow and the laptop have been placed on the couch. They might prevent a Para from sitting there if there's not enough room to sit

Anonymous

love love love this! all its missing is a love seat and maybe a full couch/sofa option?? 💕🤩

Anonymous

This is awesome ❤️ this game looks so amazing already!! Your work is incredible! I was thinking having Paras be able to change their seating position on couches would be cool too. I actually noticed this example in GTA online where in certain chairs you can rotate between pre-made sitting poses (legs crossed leaning forward or sitting back kinda slouched). It’s like a little option that pops up when you sit down, and in Paralives it could be like a menu that pops up when you sit on couches or something. Like others have said, sitting or stretching out on different parts of a couch sounds like a cool addition. No pressure though, I’m just throwing out random suggestions :) Stay blessed and can’t wait to see more from you all! 😁

grace

i can't wait to see everything y'all are doing come together! I feel like when this game comes out i'll be playing it and nothing else for a month straight lol

Anonymous

Ngl the couch images almost made me think I was looking at loss

Megan Santucci

Ooh I love this idea! You could make a gym with a communal shower or a giant luxury shower with multiple heads for a fancy rich person!

Jaxon Mia Escontrias

a glass table that triangle shape would be kinda cool 👉🏼👈🏼

Anonymous

It looks great guys ,keep up the good work .can't wait to see it 😀👍

Calista

Amazing, keep it up <3

hjs_wells

Neat! Love it!

Anonymous

Looks amazing! I love it, comfy and actually lived with

Macanon Snow

Amazing work on to the new features as usual ^^

Anonymous

This looks amazing. Just curious, when a para sits on a couch, will the couch deform under them in any way?

Fran Smith

How about modular cat trees? Pets are confirmed, so we have to have cat trees!! Could we piece them together to make the cat trees of our dreams? Same with bird cages? And cat highways and cat runs. Also wall units - you know those huge wall units that take up most of a wall? When I was a child, my parents had one that contained the TV, the stereo, a set of encyclopedia (yeah, age giveaway), books, nick-knacks, trophies, some cupboards, some just shelving without doors, doors opening upwards and out from the middle and single doors, all various sizes, etc. Also you know those modular Ikea boxes that are stackable, either used as boxed storage, or on their sides as shelving, some with lids/doors, some without. Kids swing sets - slide, swing, rope, H bar, pole, climbing net, sand/rubber matting/grass base/trapeze swing/tyre swing, forts etc. Cupboards/wardrobes, if we will be able to open them and view the contents, as per above shelving. Young kids school projects - you know, made out of cereal boxes, toilet rolls, margarine containers, canisters etc. That would be fun!

Anonymous

Am I the only one who is just over the moon about being able to put different fruits in a fruit bowl? 😆 Such a small thing but my god I'm looking forward to it.

Anonymous

I love all of this. Amazing work!!

Anonymous

I am already in love 💞

Madi Crouch

Can you put bolsters between seats? Then we could construct movie theatre style seats.

Jordacious

This looks great! I love all of these amazing new things coming to the game. I could see using this feature for shelving (whether it be book shelves or tings just to place on a shelf) Maybe for desks like making an L-shaped desk. Oh and maybe dog houses and cat trees.

Anonymous

The cattree and birds cage, is an awsome idea, i would absolutly love it.

Annamaris

More official modular objects, I'm already in love with this concept! The modularity will very likely reduce size of the objects' cache files and for that reason, lag and loading time. This will be the dream feature for any builder, decorator and clutter holic! I can't wait to hear what else you decide to make modular. (And the sofa in the picture gives me serious Ikea vibes. It looks so comfortable.) I listed some ideas and suggestions for modular objects. Please mind you this is not definetly the demand or wishlist. ▪just in case: beds. I refer to changeable pillows, sheets and bed frames, for example. ▪ the cat trees and dog houses as already mentioned. ♡ ▪it has been already suggested but playground objects: swings, jungle gym, slides, seesaw, sandpit etc. ▪treehouses ♡ ▪"water objects" such as water slides, pool bars, stairs and ladders to the pool, wading pools, diving boards (it would be nice to place higher than usually in the life simulatuon games). ▪cardboard boxes which children could use for playing and their school projects. They would be suitable for pets, too. ▪fireplace: chimney would be nice to be the separate object from the actual fireplace. ▪this is purely a decorative idea but pipes for industrial apartments. ▪beams and other decorative objects for the roof. Sorry, I have no idea about the actual words for these. ▪as already suggested, door and windows, their frames, glass and other decorative stuff related to them. ▪arches ▪as already suggested, desks. Modular benches would be very neat, too. ▪fountains ▪hot tubs. So neat if we could tweak them like expanding the size, adding showers and benches, shaping etc. ♡.♡ ▪shelves, beds and any other stuff which can make the place under the stairs useable and functional. ▪pots and other planters for plants, flowers and harvestables. Thinking of a mini garden and greenhouse to be placed in urban houses and apartments. ▪This is not actually the modular object but it would be very usable feature if we could change the script of the particular objects by using cheats, for example. It would be very useful and easy way to create decorative clutter from functional in-game objects and vice versa. (There's a mod called "The Transmogrifier (aka Object Script Changer)" by icarus_allsorts for TS3 if anybody is interested in seeing how it works.)

Anonymous

Oh my god this is absolutely amazing! You all are le aving no stone unturned when it comes to building and I am so here for it! Thank you all so much for your hard work! We appreciate you so so so much!!!

Megan Santucci

My dream for modular objects is definitely kids' playground equipment. Swings, slides, climbing walls, play houses, monkey bars, everything! I hadn't thought of this before but it would be SICK to have a play house that you could have freestanding on the ground OR stick it on a slide and it would snap to the top. Stuff like that.

Megan Santucci

I really like the idea of modular hot tubs or maybe a "jet" object that you can add to a tub of any size? because then you could make jetted tubs for nice baths in addition to hot tubs!

Morgan Brilliant

I'd love to see something like the InterMetro shelving system. We bought a variety of shelves and posts when our kid was very small. Over the years, we were able to reconfigure them as needed. They've held toys, office supplies, software manuals and discs (yes, I'm old), back to office supplies, and kitchen equipment. Oh, and there's a castle table. Short version: may we please have a reconfigurable shelving system of some kind?

Anonymous

Apart from modular sofas and kitchen cabinets I would love modular shelving, bookcases, cabinets and wardrobes. I love building librarys or big modern houses with a wall of bookcases - but it looks weird to have one bookshelf repeated five or more times. The same with walk in closets. It would be amazing to have a few variations of clothes, shoes, ... to make it look realistic. Personally I do not need a dozen different design choices per object. I prefer for example a country kitchen counter with a few options like one door, two doors, drawers, a drawer-door combination and open shelves, a few different doorknobs and wood tones, but in a way that all of these options match the country kitchen aesthetic. Whereas if I want a modern counter I would use a different object with variations in a modern style. Because as much as I LOVE the modular options, the color wheel and different textures, I still want nice counters to cost more than simple or rundown ones. If I can change literally everything on a cheap counter to make it look like an expensive one, it would take a bit of fun away for me actually.

AmorFati

I had two ideas for modular furniture: 1) Beds. -different blanket options: duvet or blankets -extra pillows (so 2 pillows on top of each other, rather than 1) -decorative pillows (a long round one behind the pillows; an extra pillow in front of the other pillows) -decorative throw blanket (over the whole bed; a foot cover) 2) animal cages (if we get small pets), hopefully these would come in a few different sizes -aquaria: could be sweet or salt water (with appropriate fish), then you get a pick of different decorations -terraria: could be rain forest or desert (with appropriate animals), then again you can pick different decorations -small rodent cages: pick from a few different lay-outs, houses, toy options and maybe flooring

Kayne

Could we get addiontional semi circles/rounded modular objects pieces (like half circles) that we could place besides the rectangular piece? I could see it come in handy. Same for counters btw.

Amata

I came here to say thank you very much. THANK YOU. To echo something said above... In That Other Game4, objects of the same type were differentiated for a variety of reasons • different stats (beds with +2 rest vs +4 rest, for example) • different cost (either decided by stat or by realism - a basic decorative bowl vs a decorative bowl made of solid gold) • style of materials, aesthetic, or construction IMO That Other Game4 has a ton of modders who spend all their time simply reskinning high-stat objects with multiple looks - or - adding high-stat values to multiple objects across different styles. Basically, as a player, I don't want to be "trapped" into always getting my folk the same Victorian styled bed set simply bc that's the best sleeping stat in the game. But on the other hand, I also want in-game costs to be meaningful - I want some furniture with better stats or expanded functions to actually cost more, so I can work up to earning them. Overall, I guess I would request that modular aspects of items be mostly stylistic or decorative, rather than game mechanic oriented. That is, the bed(s) with +2 sleep should be available in all the aesthetic styles and colors as the bed(s) with +4 sleep. That way a player's design choices can remain mostly consistent, even as they earn upgrades for their folk's lives. I hope this made sense :)

S&M Gonzalez

Modular tvs - size and type (flat screens to old school box tvs) - Designs for knobs to be on it so you have to have the para walk to the tv to turn it on or no knobs and they can turn it on with a remote only. Modular beds - Frames or no frames (basically a futon or mattress on the floor). - Choosing different mattress sizes and being able to stack 2 mattresses on top of each other would be cool to just give illusion of height. - Pillows or no pillows - Bedding (duvet and sheets), no bedding (you’d just sleep without blankets), or blanket only. I think it’d be cool if you could sleep with a blanket though on some furniture it could just be folded up on the bed or couch and the para would use it. - Change the design and colors of the sheets and duvet Modular doors - knobs on both sides of door or just one side - Locks both ways or just one way - that act as a mail box except for packages of course, so instead of having a mailbox you can have a door with a mail slot in for paras to get mail.

Annamaris

Thank you for sharing your detailed ideas about tvs, beds and doors (plus your previous ideas about windows etc.). Really love all of them! I'd be very glad if even some of them were part of the final version of the game. They'd give so much choises and freedom for designing. (: Btw, your idea about futons and mattresses made me think how cool it was if they were portable and "stockable", too. The paras could keep them either on the floor, in their personal inventory or put them into the storage. It would give them both freedom to sleep everywhere they desire and more free space. Sleeping bags could work in the same way. And when it comes to the sofas, it would be so cool if we had a piece for the sofa bed, too. Everything ready for sleepovers and the guests who prefer not to share the bed! :D

All I have to say is that I love this furniture & how smooth it and clean it looks!!! The coffee table I love SO MUCH. Awesome job!

Anonymous

It always makes my day seeing the progress of this game. Thank you for your hard work! Can't wait to play it.

John Bergstrom

Really awesome. I'm honestly ready to play this game. I really look forward to the Alpha/Beta tests (whenever they take place)

Joanna Hinds

I can’t wait to play this freaking game

IdrilPuck

This will also work well for cabinets and counters in kitchens. I do hope that not all couches will be like this, as I think having both kinds is best for creativity.

Anonymous

exciting! i can't wait til this game comes out :D

Anonymous

Perhaps different textures could cost more money, just like real life

Debra

It's not quite clear to me how Parafolks would be able to sit on these couches. Especially on ones that are blocked by another seat. Even the L shaped couch set seems it would be hard to animate a Parafolk from being able to get on it to sit down with the back to the cushions in the center. Just musing how are animations going to work with this type of furniture.

tey711

After viewing the pictures and reading the comments/responses for this thread, my main desire for ingame furniture pieces would be texture/color/design swatches to be plentiful since players taste would be greatly varied... so unique combinations of these 3 elements would be sublime, if reasonably possible. As fyi, I have to use game cheats in build mode for the simulation game I currently play to create a wide variety of furnture designs and arrangements to fit the room and style of the character I'm designing for, so asthetics and playability are key to the overall atmospere of any room I create. And, as far as design in the current game I play, one can only get a plentiful variety of swatches by adding mods to the game, which is why I'm hoping the color/design wheel will work on all furniture pieces in Paralives, as well. Another hope I have which may or may not be difficult for living room furniture would be in regard to playability... I would love my Para to stretch out on a couch, loveseat, lounge, etc. similar to the bed interaction of laying down and covering up with bedding to sleep, nap, read a book, watch tv, etc., which in this case would be covering up with a throw or comforter draped or placed on the furniture. I envision the same fluid motion we saw with Maggie getting up from a sitting position on the floor to a standing position which caused me to catch my breath and sparked my hope to see this type of ease and fluid motion in all a Para's game movement and interaction with other Paras as well as with game objects they interact with or use in the game. I'm not well versed in what's actually possible in game playability, but I do know and have faith if it's possible, Alex, you and your team can do it!! My best regards and appreciation for all you and your team does for us as Patrons and future players!! ❤

This would be great for chairs, making backs, arms, and legs modular. That way you could build a bar stool and a rocking chair with the same object.

TnT_Terry

I am not sure if this would fall into this mix, but someone had posted on twitter asking a guru in sims 4 this; "I wish we could change the heights of fences like we can with walls and half walls!" And I thought hell yeah, this would be an awesome addition to Paralivs!

Minakie

"Modular objects": - gaming consoles: have the option to choose how many controllers it comes with (one, two, maybe more) and if you want it to also come with a headset or not - plushies: have the option to add different items to them (shirts, caps, scarves, etc) so they could be customized (I may or may not have had this idea because I'm ordering custom plushies on Etsy, hehe) - clutter: maybe certain types of clutter (like scattered/open books) can have different variants, with different levels of unorganized chaos - furniture: have certain types of furniture (like cupboards and bookshelves) have a variation between wooden or glass doors or even no doors - ceiling lights: have variations where you have objects (such as chimes or dreamcatchers) hanging from the light/candlestick - walls/fences/flooring: sometimes you want to make a shack or a "poor-looking" building and you want the wall/fence/floor to have some cracks/holes but you don't want the entire wall/fence/floor to be rundown, you want the damage to only be on specific points, so it could be useful to have such variations within the actual object

Amy Joscelyn

It's not an object per se, but trees could work really well as a modular item. Choose different trunk types, different bark materials, patterns of leaves, whether they have buds and flowers and whether they bear fruit. Of course there can also be the standard type of trees, but for folks who enjoy worldbuilding and want to create something uniquely their own, this could help to give the neighborhood a different look from the norm.

ResembleMedia_UK

Would be nice to partner with say Ikea and get them to share their 3D objs with you , and be able to buy ikea pack as a separate add on, using their items to build your home

Anonymous

Woaw, it’s one of the most smooth thing I ever seen in a video game, everything looks so simple to do yet really detailed and complex. I’m willing to wait for few more years if the whole game has this level of quality

Anonymous

To me it would make more sense that they would need the space to get onto the couches... so if you have them all blocked by pillows, Paras might not be able to use them. But if you remove one and had like a U shaped couch (or flipped the couches so the pillows were all on the inside edge) then perhaps they could. It'll be interesting to see how it's tackled, that's for sure haha!

Tina

I'm so excited for this game!!!!
