Candles and other Props that produce light in Restitched always give us a dilemma. Do we keep it simple and versatile, letting you assemble the flame and light separately? Or do we merge them so all you need to do is place the candle and change its light settings - albeit at the expense of being unable to remove the flame?

Because of the way our datasets work in Restitched, we have to choose one or the other. You may wonder why we can't code in a way to disable the flame and go with the combined option, but this would mean adding new features through code. We consider this too small of a thing to invest our limited resources in right now!

So, we're asking your opinion! Do you prefer things like the candle to come as a full package (candle + flame particle + light source), or would you rather assemble each piece yourself so you can still use the candle models without a flame?

Below is an example:

Candle 1 is just a basic Prop model. (versatile)

Candle 2 is a set including the model, a flame particle, and a light source. (convenience)

What are your thoughts? As a player/creator, which would you prefer most?

Is the candle flame done through a particle system of some kind? Since its still pretty early days getting an eventual tweak on the candle to simply turn off/hide the system would be super cool. Adding a flame to an unlit candle in lbp was always a bit of a faff.

maybe you could just have it that if the brightness on a candle is set to 0 then it hides the particle? Might be the best of both worlds.

Is it possible to just set the flame's alpha value equal to it's light setting? That way if the candle light is set to 0%, then it turns off the flame.
