When I first started watching Telugu films in the theaters here they weren't subbed, because the distributors didn't in 2011t think they were necessary as they believed only Telugu speaking people were watching them. This was 13 years ago. A bunch of us tweeted and messaged (aka harrassed), directors, producers and stars to get them subbed, trying to convince them there never would be a demand without them. I got responses from Jr NTR, Rajamouli, Prakash Raj, Siddarth and Producers Shobu Yarlagadda, Dil Raju and quite a few dms back and forth with Allu Sirish (Allu Arjun's Brother) back then. The first Telugu film subbed here was Mahesh's Businessman in 2012. Then no subs again until Bunny's Race Guram in 2014. Regular subs for Telugu films didn't become common until Bahubali in 2015. For some reason Tamil films were commonly subbed. Not sure when Malayalam Films were subbed for theaters in those days as the few I saw were dvd's. It wasn't just me, lots of non Desi Telugu film fans did it, we had hashtags LOL. I think Josh Hurtado after seeing Eega without subs was working Rajamouli hard on it too. By my count I saw 28 Telugu films in the theater without subs between 2010 and 2015. It was nuts. Every other Industry was subbed. Even the freakin Walt Disney produced Siddharth starter, Anaganaga O Dheerudu in 2011 wasn't subbed! Sorry rant over. It was sooooo frustrating back then.
