Each to their own, I suppose. All the people being discussed, Kajol, Kareena, et al, have their fair share of over the top and bad acting as much as their really good roles. Guess it goes with the territory and is not right to compare anyone. With Sridevi, I grew up watching her and Kamal Hassan in Tamil, her wonderful work in many languages before she burst into the Hindi scene and for me, her expressions (and many other actresses of that time) was a personification of their excellent indian classical dance training and the related 'abhinaya'. its silly to compare a Savitri, Vyjaanthimala, Padmini to Sridevi and Jaya Pradha and Rekha because films and the audience sensisbilities changed with the decades and even more wrong to compare Sridevi and her colossal body of work to Kajol and Kareena and the like. The greatness of Sridevi is that she could do it all and make it look so effortless. There are stories that when filming Mr. India, Sridevi would act out the same scene in 3-4 different ways for Shekar Kapur, the director and ask him to choose the tone as he needed it.
