My sister & I discuss our thoughts after Episode 9 of I-Land & react to an ADORABLE BONUS video of I-Land's BEHIND clip!

*ALSO, I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS A RUMOR OR NOT BUT IT'S ABOUT GLOBAL RANKINGS SO PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU'RE CONFUSED TOO???*:
I don't know HOW we missed this- but we didn't see the part in Episode 9 where they reveal the global rankings?!?! So we found out THROUGH Twitter that apparently Jay was revealed as rank 11??!?! UMM WHAT?! Is this true?!?! We hope this isn't just a rumor, but I wanted to mention this here since we didn't get to discuss the global rankings in this discussion BECAUSE WE DIDN'T SEE IT?! *Crying* But if we knew/saw this beforehand, we definitely would have discussed this and shared our thoughts on his ranking/others- unfortunately, we had no idea until after we recorded this video. We also jumped into this discussion IMMEDIATELY after uploading our Episode 9 reaction so we didn't get to review the focus cams of each performer... please keep this in mind as we talk about each applicant and our opinions! These are our raw, first impressions after Episode 9 and how we feel.

These discussions will always remain open & honest to share with our close viewers, so I hope you keep feeling encouraged to share your own opinions in the comment section! We read ALL the comments and love how all of you are so enthusiastic, open, & honest with us too. PLEASE ALWAYS BE RESPECTFUL IN THE COMMENTING & ESPECIALLY WHEN REPLYING TO OTHERS IN THE COMMENT SECTION! Thanks for understanding! Love you & see you in Episode 10!!!

Love, Mama & Auntie Pilbug!

Wait what I didn't see that either?! Maybe it's because I have been staying off of Twitter and I didn't bother to rewatch the episode on Viki because I had seen the livestream + your reaction... I guess it got cut off? Well I'm glad I voted for Jay a few times at least

sillypak

Yeah I'm not quite sure?!?!?! AAAAhhh I don't know TT_TT It's nmot confirmed with me yet thought but AAAH I don't remember seeing that at all? I hope it's not true!!!

No need to panic ! At the end of episode 8, we were shown the voting results of the first week of voting, and at that time Jay was 11th. Many voted for Jay (even if he wasn't one of their top 2 picks) to make sure he'd be saved. I wouldn't be worried for him, but for those who were ranked a bit higher above him and up until the mid rankings (depending on how the first week results influenced people to vote for the lower ranked trainees rather than their faves).

If am being honest, i couldn't watch ep 9 and I only watched the performances and your reaction to the performance. K has been my favorite from day one and he still is, so I don't think I can watch this episode. I feel he won't debut and many people already hates him so even if he debuts, the hate won't go away. I saw a lo of insults towards him, saying his crying was a 'pity me' siuaion and all such of insults. I really don't know if I can watch this show anymore without tearing up or getting angry.

I understand what you are trying to say but we have to remember that they are in a highly stressful and competitive environment, and while we might see some of what goes on behind the scenes we are also only seeing what the camera is portraying to us. What the trainees see and feel is completely different. As for Heeseung not immediately confronting K, I believe that he was intimidated by him rather than holding a grudge, which is not K's fault at all because as we saw in the episode, he also wanted to have fun and not give the other trainees a hard time. He just came off as touchy, and the reluctance to talk to him probably had something to do with him being older than the other members as well. No one is perfect, and we certainly can't expect that from them, not even from a leader. The issue was resolved and that's all that matters in the end. No matter who ends up being chosen as leader we should support them and not blame them for making mistakes, they are all trainees and humans after all. I saw your other comment and I agree that K is receiving unfair hate, but you don't need to throw Heeseung under the bus to protect him. They have both shown good qualities of a leader so far and both of them have made mistakes. So let's just cheer both of them on equally and watch them learn and grow into amazing artists.

The teaser for next week doesn't tell us who is eliminated, all the trainees are in the preview. The votes finished yesterday, so the elimination happened then. I'll explain the timeline. While we watched episode 8, they were doing the performances of test 2. Then they got the first week votes results, and received badges based on them (which is why in the preview shows 7 of them wearing badges, they were the top 7 of first week votes). No one was eliminated. Then they were separated into two teams (Sunghoon, Daniel, Sunoo, Taki, Jungwon and Jake in one, and Heesung, K, Jay, Niki and Hanbin in another). They met seventeen, did a mission, then they started practicing for test 3. Episode 9 aired, the voting ended yesterday and someone got eliminated. They are now practicing for test 3 while rearranging the performance depending on which trainee got eliminated. Next week we'll see all of this. I'm not sure if we'll get the performances for test 3 in next week's episode, but we definitely won't get test 3's results (since I'm sure they won't show two eliminations in one episode).

At the end of the last episode, they provide the global rankings (Sunoo, Heesueng, Sunghoon, Taki, Jake, Jungwon, Daniel, Hanbin, K, Niki, Jay). These are the interim rankings and that's why you see Daniel and Taki wearing badges while K and Jay are not. These will, of course, change when they announce the new rankings next week. I'm really happy that Jake got the Rank 1. And I voted for Hanbin (Mnet did him dirty by not giving him enough screen time. Did you listen to his high note? OMG!!!) and Jay (He is definitely needed in the Debut group. He has a great character).

I feel like if I get started on here my entire conversation will be about Geonu so I will shy away from that topic. I will say this that I don't necessarily agree with the rainbow idea. In fact, I think Bighit will want what is "considered" to be a great vocal line. It most likely will be a minimum of 3 of them (I think 4). There will be 2 in the rap line.. Many will think the all 7 will be in the visual line. Personally I think 2 will be top tier visuals. Dance line might be 4... but I think only 3 will be considered superb. All in all, they will end up having a good "variety pack" of idols. I guess that could be a rainbow? One color for sure though will be the most prominent! 🙂 I generally agree with everything you guys said about all of them. I said early in the season that Jay wasn't getting a fair shake. I knew he was very talented. Whether it was an unbroadcasted issue with the others or it was how production wanted Jay to be portrayed, who knows. I'm sure I'll be jumping into other threads too!

Yeah, that's the thing I was wondering about... if they'd show two eliminations in one episode. If not, there would be still 10 applicants left in the second to last episode. So either, they eliminate 2 there (and 1 in the last episode) or in the very last one (and only one in 11th episode) OR they do a SURPRISE,/PLOT TWIST "We'll do a 8 member group cause the global audience has spoken (7 and 8 were so close in votes or sth). 12th/last episode is supposed to air on Sep 18... I wonder how they'll end the show.

It’s so refreshing seeing your guy’s opinion cause Sunghoon and Jungwon didn’t stand out to me that much in flicker, so seeing you guys hype them up gave me a different side to see. I especially agree on your opinion on the chemistry test that DiY had more chemistry between the I-LANDERS and the fact that they had to actually use the props and pass them around while turning on and off the light gave them more responsibility as a team to work together. I kinda wish you guys reacted to fancams cause they hit different👏 you see the details the cameraman didn’t get like Heeseungs fancam really made me fall for flicker and Hanbins for DiY is AMAZING since we don’t see his moments cause mnets editing

For me, Heeseung is the best leader. I don’t think he purposefully went behind K’s back and they weren’t even being rude. In fact, Heeseung was being very considerate about K and the whole group. It very uncomfortable for him to address a conflict with someone older than him, but I think he really showed how much he has learned from I-land in terms of leadership skills. He constantly puts the other members ahead of what he wants. We saw that when he asked if Niki wanted to keep center, when Jungwon was struggling with his part, and now when K wanted role two. Heeseung hardly talked behind K’s back except to talk about how they felt. They didn’t bad mouth him or anything. I hope that this bump helped them all move to a point where they can communicate better and become stronger. I was so happy to see Jay’s fire back as it didn’t seem as prominent with the last two episodes. He is amazing and very talented. I hope to see him debut. Taki, I agree with you guys, is not ready to debut. I don’t know if it’s because they are now performing live in front of the producers instead on having them watch behind a screen that has made him more nervous or what, but I would be very sad if he continued on and took the slot of another trainee who I think has more potential rn.

theGeekOutGirl

I could watch Sunghoon skate for hours hahahaha. But he makes me feel guilty for not skating enough hahaha I need to go back to the rink once it's safe XDDDD......Oh, and tbh I do believe that you guys really felt bad and cried for Geonu. I hope no one is bothering you guys about that. Oh and In the Soop! YAAAYYYY! I love how you guys get me excited for stuff hahaha

This is my first time commenting but just want to say that I love your reactions & discussions. I'm more of a shadow viewer lol I'm commenting this time though cause I just wanted to say something about the show & editing & stuff overall. Personally I wish that as viewers, more of us normalize the idea that yes the editing can be dramatic & the show does push you towards certain perspectives & ideas (it's a reality show so ofc) but that a lot of the things that happen on the show is natural. Its natural for trainees to argue, disagree, butt heads, maybe even feel a bit intimidated sometimes. I feel like a lot of kpop stans have this idea that groups are always suppose to be happy, cute and get along cause that's kind of the "perfect" image that a lot of groups push even if they don't really get along. But I love I-land as a casual viewer because it shows moments that aren't always so rosy. As an ARMY, I love how BTS is always so open about the fact that not everything is always sunshine and rainbows and is in fact quite hard, scary and sad sometimes. Especially when they talk about their struggles being in the industry as both trainees and idols cause that's REAL. BTS have even mentioned (along w/other artists) how some groups only get along on camera and we've even seen something like this get exposed just this year w/a group. When you both mentioned the part about groups who get along and work well together tend to succeed more regardless of how talented or skilled some others may be, I couldn't help but think that. I personally love the dramatics of the show and ik the editing isn't everyone's favorite. But for me those tense like moments are among my favorite parts. I feel like a group will never truly learn to become one w/out overcoming things like that. Anybody can become a group but not everyone knows how to be a TEAM and I like i-land is teaching them this. Even after debuting they'll still go through things like this cause it's natural. We've all had similar experiences as ppl and it made us better, wiser. I wish more ppl could appreciate that perspective of the show more. Maybe its cause I'm not overly invested emotionally in any of the trainees yet aside from natural empathy. I check out other groups sometimes and I've been around kpop for a decade or more but my heart belongs to BTS. I'm an ARMY fully through lol so maybe that helps me view the show differently? Idk but I really appreciate how you all seem to appreciate the show in a similar perspective. You're not easily swayed by every little edit or every debatable decision the trainees or producers make. You form your own opinions, feelings and analyze it like me so thank you for that. It's nice to have ppl to relate to (even in the shadows 😂) but yeah I wish more ppl on YT and twitter especially could appreciate the show more in that aspect instead of just complain or rant. Although I get it upsets them sometimes, especially if they have biases. I personally just keep a list of all the trainees I'd be mostly ok losing every episode. They all have pros but ik which ones I'd like to see debut in the group vs ones I wouldn't be as disappointed over. So yes thank you for the great reactions and discussions! Idk if I'll comment more in the future or not but just want you to know I love what you girls do and keep up the good work 😊💜

I definitely agree about a lot of kpop groups consisting of a little bit of everything, however in my opinion BigHit specifically holds a higher standard when it comes to skills compared to other companies. Look at BTS for example, 4 phenomenal vocalists, 3 incredible rappers, not to mention dance line's skills as well. In other words, BTS and even TXT set a standard that frankly few of the I-LAND members currently meet. Also PLEASE keep in mind that the group is debuting this year, which means the members need to be ready to debut right now. This is why I personally think members like Taki and Daniel need more time to develop. Just my opinion of course, but my current picks are Heeseung, Sunghoon, Jungwon, Jake, Jay, Sunoo, and K/Niki

Episode 9 was so far the best episode. There’ll shined. My unpopular opinion is I’m worried about Sunghoon if he gets to debut. I see him as Jin (bts) and Jisoo(Bp). I see more of a praise for his visual than talent and........ 🤭 anyway someone please agree on me that Sunghoon and actor Lee Jung Suk look alike 😅.

Anonymous

OMG That's exactly what I thought when I saw Sunghoon for the first time. They do look alike

From the very beginning of the show, the question I asked myself to choose who to vote for was "Do I want this person in the group?" So I couldn't agree more when you said this isn't just about vocal or just about dancing. What's even more important is whether they get along with the others and have a positive synergy. And in that aspect, K's leadership was a little disappointing for me. Not that I think K is evil or inconsiderate, but I think I witnessed a certain aspect of him that could be a potential threat to the unity of the team. Same with Taki regarding if his charms and presence on stage go along with the others'. I hope they prove in the near future that those aspects of themselves actually add variety to the group without harming the teamwork.

NG

I have the same picks as you, including being torn between K/Niki for the final member.
