From Adal:

A couple of weddings and a birthday trip for my brother in law made this month travel heavy but a great time. I finally made it to New Jersey; former home of one Jemma Rifai. Highlights included: Hoagie Haven, Bent Spoon ice cream, Aljon’s Pizza, Grounds for Sculpture and a tour of Princeton’s campus! Oh also I swung by Grover’s Mill, NJ and found a big plaque honoring Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast and how like 1 in 5 people thought it was real or some shit. The plaque includes the image of a family of 3 sitting in the living room, scared out of their fucking minds. Imagine having the bandwidth to be solely afraid of horrors from the skies. MUST BE NICE.

We also went to NYC and got to catch the incredible remount of Into The Woods with maybe the most stacked lineup I’ve ever seen in a show. I’m heading to NYC again in 6 hours and I’m going to check out A Strange Loop (which I hear is great) and go again to Sleep No More (my 10th visit!). Speaking of NYC….

Next week are 2 Hey Riddle Riddle live shows! Tuesday 9/6 show in NYC at The Bell House and Wednesday 9/7 in Washington DC at Union Stage (I believe there’s only 9 tickets left for this one). More info and tickets at: heyriddleriddle.com/live

Also! October 14th, Hello From the Magic Tavern will be live in NYC at The Bell House! You can find more info and tickets at: https://hellofromthemagictavern.com/live-shows

Here’s what I consumed in August:

TV:

  • A League of Their Own
  • Bluey Season 3!! In this season they make both a Borat joke (I think?) and a Friday (the 1995 Chris Tucker and Ice Cube movie) joke! (I think?). As brilliant as ever but as I’m watching it I realized the neighbors of this family must absolutely despise them.
  • LOTR: The Rings of Power - liking it more than I thought I would
  • The Outlaws Season 2
  • She-Hulk
  • House of the Dragon
  • EVIL season 3
  • The Patient - not really digging it
  • Trainwreck: Woodstock ‘99
  • Hard Knocks new season
  • Mike
  • Legacy: The True Story of the L.A. Lakers

Movies:

  • Val - really well done documentary about Val Kilmer by Val Kilmer
  • All The Presidents Men - I had never seen it so decided it was time
  • CODA
  • Samaritan - woof
  • Inside the Mind of a Cat

Other Stuffs:

  • I was a guest on the wonderful Avatar: Braving The Elements podcast. In my episode we discuss one of my favorite episodes of the series; Zuko Alone
  • I was a guest again on one of my favorite podcasts to join; The Restricted Section, so perhaps check out that recent episode
  • JPC was amazingly kind and bought me a top o’ da line pressure washer that I’m very excited to use before winter hits
  • I’m really enjoying my Oculus! I picked up Smash Drums and Beat Saber. Going to check out more games ya’ll suggested once I have a bit more downtime. Also Audio Daddy Casey Toney helped me track down a PS5 so now I need to know what’s good on that!
  • Jemma and I went to see The Decemberists
  • Went and saw Dave Attell live as I’ve always enjoyed him from when I used to watch Insomniac in college
  • Listened to the new Muse album Will of the People

Please let me know what you’ve been enjoying! Oh and as we ramp up to October, let me know any scary movies I should see!

Love

From JPC:

Hey Riddiots -

Here are some recommendations of culture that I'm consuming and so should you!

What We Do In The Shadows - Season 4. Honestly, the other seasons too if you haven't seen them. The show is great and massively funny. Matt Berry is a treasure. If anyone knows him, tell him to come on the podcast.

For All Mankind - Apparently AppleTV has a whole bunch of shows that I've never heard anyone ever talk about. I started watching (having it on while I play Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions) this one and it's pretty interesting? Maybe I'm just a sucker for the whole alternate history thing, but it's basically a "what if the space race with the USSR never stopped?" alt history drama show and I like it so far. I think I'm only in season 2 and there are 3 seasons of it?

The Expanse - Mariah and I realized that we never watched Seasons 5 and 6 so we just finished. Season 6 only has like 6 episodes because Amazon ran out of money or something? Or maybe it's because one of the leads turned out to be a sex pest which may have tanked the final season? It's a pretty good sci-fi show but I also watched the first 4 seasons before I knew about that whole sex pest thing. Anyway, it's got cool space ships and absolutely wild accent choices.

Oh, and come see us in NYC (9/6) or DC (9/7) cause we still have some tickets available for both shows!

Be well!

HRR Updates/News

2. We hit our stretch goal! You fools! You’ve released the horror that is Camp Solveaway (from the DISGUSTING mind of Erin Keif)! Coming your way in two parts! Part 1 on Friday 9/23 and Part 2 on Friday 9/30!

I grew up and my family still lives, like, 10 minutes from Grounds for Sculptures! I'm so glad you went! Most beautiful place in NJ! Plus it has so many secret spots and alcoves you can explore it so many times and still discover something new!

JPC I am playing FFT WOTL for the first time too! Big fan of the FF franchise but never caught that one back in the day.

Adal, I really recommend Kena: Bridge of Spirits on PS5. It's a open world game with a ton of cute and fun collectibles with a really gorgeous look, story, and score. I just finished it, and it's really 10/10

Adal, if you're into washing your own vehicles, grab a spray foam soap attachment for that pressure washer. It's probably the most satisfying thing you can do either a pressure washer. I'm glad you mentioned Bluey, my kiddo definitely needs new episodes to watch of that(and me, that show is incredible)

Hey Riddle Riddle

oh, I've played this game maybe 10 times. Was a little bummed that they replaced all the ridiculous dialogue from the original.

Thomas Flott

Adal did you have any thoughts about the new Muse album? Their stuff hasn't been hitting for me since The 2nd Law tbh

Maggie Reilly

JPC, We just watched the entirety of The Expanse this summer (w/o knowledge of the "sex pest", which was a bummer to find out 'cause I really liked that character). The physics in that show are spot-on. It's so badass. Intending on reading them all!

Cat Gonzales

there is some cool weird stuff on apple tv! I can't WAIT for Camp Solveaway!!!! best of luck at the factory. I took my Abuela there and we were so overwhelmed at the chaotic menu, and the staff was so weird like maybe they're kept there under duress? I worry for them... hope you make it through unscathed!!! I did not vote for that one

Apple TV is weirdly shocking with how much low key good stuff it has!

Adal, you were a big Cristin Milioti fan, right? Have you watched The Resort? She's so good in it and I really enjoyed it

Adal - you should mod your Oculus so you can play your own songs on BS. There’s a thriving community of beatmappers and a million songs to choose from once you get sick of the default soundtracks for Beat Saber!

Anonymous

I can't recommend enough figuring out how to do custom songs on beatsaber with mods.

I'm gonna keep spamming about KLEO on Netflix as my wreck me daddy. Just do it.
