From Adal:

Did a small bit of traveling last month! Went to Animal Kingdom at DisneyWorld for the first time and loved it! The tree of life was super cool, Lion King live show was neat, lots of fun! The only rough parts were sitting front car on the Everest Expedition (I think I just need to not ride roller coasters ever again. I don’t like the sensation of feeling like I’m about to die!) and we waited two hours and changed for the Avatar VR ride which WAS COOL but about 3 minutes in I vomited in my mouth due to motion sickness and had to either spew it all over this $200,000 screen and system or swallow it. After that I felt awful for about 2 hours and then we went to Trader Sams and all my worries melted away! Absolutely in love with that tiki bar. Truly magical.

Jemma and I also went to Denver to see Guster at Red Rocks which was a delight! I had never been to Denver and really enjoyed getting to peak around the neighborhoods. Jemma’s step-sister lives in the Baker area so we got to walk around there a bit and I highly recommend if you’re ever in town you stop by The Wizards Chest! It’s hands down the coolest board game/costume store I’ve ever seen! As I was walking around I discovered some of the workers/owners are Magic Tavern listeners so I got to autograph their D&D Handbooks which was a delight. Please check this place out and tell me what games you get!

Oh we also went to the Colorado Ren Faire! Outstanding people watching and some really great shows/stores/acts. Colorado….it turns out…..is a beautiful state! WHO KNEW!

I’m super excited for our HRR trip to Copenhagen in a few weeks and our show in Odense, Denmark! If you’re near Odense on Saturday August 22nd, come check out the show and say hi! It’s part of their Improv Festival so we’ll be there about a week teaching workshops and taking in the sights!

Jemma and I are also headed to France in September if you have any recommendations for the Bordeaux region! I’m not a wine drinker but I’m very much into food.

I think that’s about it? Hope you’re all doing well! Let me know in the comments if you’ve stumbled upon anything you recommend! I’ve already found some gems from you all passing info along!

Oh! If you’re in Chicago this Sunday the 8th, you should head over to Lincoln Hall and catch our friends Greg Hess and Holly Laurent do a live show of their phenomenal podcast MEGA! The guests are out of this world great and if you see Greg/Holly please tell them I sent you!

  • McCartney 3, 2, 1

One last thing! I think a few folks have asked for a copy of my recommendations for New Orleans so I’ll post them here for anyone who might be interested! If you have any I missed let me know!

Below is my full recommendation list but I also listed just top 5 must go!

1. Coops Place - get the Sampler platter

2. Killer Po'boys - they have 2 locations, go to the one that's hidden/tucked into the back of a bar called Erin Rose. If you like frozen Irish coffee get one at Erin Rose to pair with your po boy as you eat!

3. Felix's Oyster House - I think it's better than ACME which is across the street from it and where most tourists go. Chargrilled oysters here are phenomenal

4. Central Grocery - birthplace of the muffuletta. Get half of one here and if you love it as much as I do I'd recommend getting a full one to go and take on the plane home. They taste even better a day later because the bread soaks up all the olive

5. Cochon Butcherie - has all kinds of tasty stuff

Bonus - Lucy's Retired Sufers Bar - at first glance it seems tacky and out of place and a place you'd absolutely avoid as they're best know for serving a real scorpion in a shot glass you can eat BUT weirdly enough, this place has the best shrimp and grits I've had in my life. My local friends told me about it, I was rolling eyes when I got there but as God as my witness the shrimp as grits really was the best.

Other places I'd recommend!: Bayona, Herbsaint, Irene's, Elizabeths (best brunch in the city! get the praline bacon), The Joynt (BBQ), Willie Mae's Fried Chicken is amazing! as is there bread pudding! The Elysian Bar - for food and/or drinks! Old Church converted into a restaurant. Horns for brunch!

Here's the full list if you're looking for anything else:

Shaya is the Israeli restaurant and I ate there this year thinking, meh it'll be fine, but it's legit incredible. One of the best meals I've had anywhere.

1. Cafe Du Monde - super obvious so we'll get it out of the way. Must have their beignets and chicory coffee, touristy but fun

2. Central Grocery - right by Cafe Du Monde, they invented the Muffulletta. One of the best sandwiches you'll ever eat is here. It's huge so you may want to get this the day you leave so you can take leftovers with you.

3. Cochon -so so good. if you're looking for a nicer date meal this place is perfect. Amazing food, great cocktails. I can't wait to go back myself: http://www. cochonrestaurant.com/

4. Po' boys at Parkway OR Mothers OR Erin Rose (called Killer Po'Boys, in the back)  - all 3 have great po'boys but Killer Po Boys is my favorite: http://www. parkwaypoorboys.com/ OR http:/ /www.mothersrestaurant.net/  OR  http://killerpoboys.blogspot. com/

5. Oysters at Felix's OR ACME Oyster House OR Dragos - my favorite is Felix's but ACME is the most popular and is right next door. For god's sake get the chargrilled oysters if you go to Felix's

6. most stuff at Coops - if you're looking for a cheaper meal with just a relaxing hole in the wall atmosphere and a sampling of all dishes New Orleans this place is perfect. http://www. coopsplace.net/

7. a drink at LaFitte's - The oldest serving bar in the US. Since 1770. It's haunted and really neat.

8. Music at Preservation Hall - This is another must. My favorite place I went to in NOLA. Live music in a tiny venue.  This place is a must go http://www. preservationhall.com/hall/

9. Surrey's - amazing brunch. Shrimp and grits here is killer as well as anything with biscuits. http:// surreyscafeandjuicebar.com/

and then definitely hit up Frenchman street at night for some phenomenal music! There’s also a kind of hidden night market on Frenchman street with all kinds of cool art, jewelry and clothing!

Drinks:

10. Napolean House -  the bar that popularized the Pimms Cup, get one!  http://www. napoleonhouse.com/

11. Pat O'Briens - they invented the hurricane. Fun to get one at the place it was first served but they are also insanely strong. Plan on splitting one maybe so you don't die. http://www.patobriens. com/patobriens/

12. The Sazerac Bar at Hotel Roosevelt - the place that invented the Sazerac. Great for a drink after a nice dinner. http:// therooseveltneworleans.com/ dining/the-sazerac-bar.html

13. Cane And Table - awesome cocktails in a really neat building and it's right in the Quarter so limited travel if you eat at Coops or somewhere in there

14. Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29 tiki bar if you're into tiki drinks! Just fantastic

Love,

Adal

From JPC:

Hey everyone!

Okay, July fucking flew by but was also very stressful! I'm hoping that for a less stressful August and so far (half a day in) so good! Here are some things I finished in July:

- Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - I think I put over 100 hours into that game and it was just okay! It certainly didn't need to be that long. I'm looking forward to an August where I play more than one game.

- Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson - I finally just sat down and knocked out the last 400 pages. Overall, great book! There were parts that I loved and parts that were only okay, but an enjoyable read on the whole. But now I have to wait until 2023 for book 5. I'm filling that hole by reading the rest of Sanderson's "Cosmere" novels and I'm starting with Elantris. Luckily it's much shorter than the Stormlight books, so I'm already halfway done.

- Rewatched Ted Lasso Season 1 - Okay, this shouldn't count as finishing something, but Mariah was gone for a day and I re-watched in anticipation of season 2 (so far, so good) and I highly recommend if you have Apple TV

Okay, so what's up this month? I just started playing Hollow Knight on Twitch. I'm so fucking bad at platformers so you can tune in to see me say "why JPC?" over and over again. I'm another month into Invisalign and I can't really see a difference in my teeth. 127 days to a perfect smile! I should have done that thing where I take before and after pictures but I didn't! Billbuds is covering the new WILLOW album which is a pop-punk inspired turn and that is always welcome to my ears. Adal, Erin and I are heading to Demark (absolutely wild) at the end of the month to teach improv and do a show. I'm legit so excited about that. I also haven't taught any improv in over a year and, as you might be able to tell from listening to the show, I'm absolutely not prepared for it.

Okay, and I wanted to start asking you all a question in case anyone feels like engaging in the Patreon comments. So here's my burning question based on this morning's breakfast and a conversation that I had with Mariah: What's your ideal breakfast taco and you only get to pick 3 ingredients, 1 sauce and 1 tortilla type. Not to influence your opinion too much but for me it's: corn tortilla, scrambled egg, potato, chihuahua cheese, and tabasco chipotle pepper sauce. Sound off in the comments and I'll tell you if you are right or wrong!

Okay that's it for me!

Love,

JPC
