HOW IS IT ALREADY JUNE?! What witch’s curse is this? Fine we’ll except it but we DON’T like it. We apologize the newsletter is a bit late! Early June has been a bit hectic!

From Adal:

Hey future lizards! Cha boi Daddy Addy celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday! To celebrate, Jemma and I went to Las Vegas to check out the new Meow Wolf installation (Omega Mart)! We absolutely loved the original in Santa Fe when we checked it out in 2019 so we decided we’re going to visit each new one that opens since they’re 100% unique and have their own stories to unlock and mysteries to solve. I think Meow Wolf has joined Sleep No More as my 2 favorite immersive/theatrical experiences. Definitely check them out if you have the chance!

We also had some incredible meals; Best Friend & Momofuku and swung by Frankies Tiki Lounge (the worlds only 24 hour tiki bar).

The only gambling I did was with my friend Joey; we played about 5 hours of a mechanical horse race game. Place $1 on a little robot horse that you get to watch herk/jerk to the finish line? Yes please!

The only bummer of the trip was our last night Jemma had her phone pickpocketed and we couldn’t recover it. She lost about 30k photos (including about 5k of Fries and Brisket!) because she hadn’t backed up her phone but we got her a new one and learned a lesson.

It was weird to be around more people but nice to travel! Everything permitted it looks like we’ll be going to New Orleans later this month and I might be going back to Denmark in August which would be a blast!

Travel aside, I’m mostly trying to get work done around the house. Got a lawnmower and a weed whacker and now the transformation is complete and I am a honorary dad.

We’re just over a month away from July 17th (7/17), which I’ve previously declared as National Riddle Day! I want to plan something fun but not sure what to do. Perhaps I’ll do a livestream? Or maybe invite local listeners to a park and we can all lay in the grass and scream riddles into the sky? I’ll figure something out and keep you all informed!

Here’s what I consumed in May!

TV:

  • Infinity Train Season 4
  • Mare of Easttown
  • Invincible
  • The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers
  • Hacks
  • Adventure Time - started a rewatch cause it’s been awhile!
  • New Girl - still watching, now on season 3!
  • Off The Air - the trippiest show out there. Watch an episode and try not to melt into your couch.
  • The Story of Late Night - docuseries about the history of talk shows. Fascinating stuff
  • Friends: The Reunion
  • Lucifer Season 5 Part 2

Movies:

  • Wolfwalkers - amazing animated movie and a beautiful story! Please check it out!
  • Bo Burnham: Inside - very funny, weird and moving
  • TENET - please don’t ask me what happened in this movie. I DONT KNOW
  • The Late Shift
  • Fighting With My Family
  • Multiplicity

Other Stuffs:

  • Exit 42 and Last Resort podcasts by Big Grande. So fucking funny, highly recommend!
  • Smartless podcast
  • Good At Parties podcast
  • Someone Else’s House - this was a Zoom horror theater experience recommended to me by a friend. Super neat and some fucking terrifying moments.

I guested on the following podcasts if you want to check any out!

  • House Decided podcast - Spotify
  • Aristotle Asparagus podcast - Spotify
  • Murder She Joked - I think my ep comes out later this month or early July?
  • Electric Priests Podcast
  • You Can’t Be Sirious! - not a podcast but a Twitch game show hosted/created by my friend Stad! I played the game as a team with Matt Young from Magic Tavern and we had a goddamn blast. Watch our episode here: https://www.twitch.tv/CityOfStad

Please let me know if you have any recommendations for me!

Adal

From JPC:

Hey everyone!

It’s been a good month! This is my first month fully vaccinated so I’ve been able to see some friends in person again and that’s been really weird. But also incredibly nice. I was one of those people who were really slow to make plans to hang out with people once I was clear because the idea of going from 0-60 with socializing was a little much for me. But now that I dipped my toes in the water I can say for sure: I really missed my friends.

Okay, what else did I get up to this month. I read We Do This Till We Free Us which is a collection of essays on the abolition of the carceral state. I can’t recommend that book enough. It’s not a very long read, but it’s one that I couldn’t just power through because the subject matter (the experiences of incarcerated people) can be pretty brutal. Still, it provides a framework for advocating for abolition that I found incredibly valuable.

For TV, Mariah and I have been watching Attack on Titan. We just finished season 2 so do NOT hit me up with spoilers. I can safely say that I’m not an Anime guy, but I am invested in what is happening next in the show. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, I know, but it’s actually very good. I watch TV so slowly that it’ll probably take me another month to move through season 3. The only movie I watched this month was that Angelina Jolie fire fighter movie and it was fine. I also rewatched Ant Man and fell asleep halfway through which is exactly what I hoped would happen when I started it.

Oh, and I got engaged.

Much love,

John “JPC” Patrick Coan
