Hey Riddiots! It didn’t make sense to send out a newsletter on the 1st but we pieced this one together mid-June to let you know what we’ve been up to! We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

As always, let us know what YOU recommend in the comments so us hosts and other patrons can have stuff to look forward to!

Adal (Dr.) Recommendations:

June 1st was my birthday so Jemma and I watched 8 episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race and ate sushi and pie/cookies from MILK bar NYC! Honestly a pretty great celebration. Brisket’s birthday was June 2nd and we mostly just sat him down to tell him know that he’s 1 year old he has to start pulling his weight around the house. Here's what I've been up to...

TV

  1. Ozark - we finished all 3 seasons and it’s just fantastic. Up there for me with Breaking Bad and Sopranos.
  2. Last Week Tonight - I watch this weekly but the last few weeks they’ve really upped their game. Essential viewing in my opinion.
  3. Patriot Act - I get nervous watching Hasan Minhaj cause he’s seems so amped up but the last few episodes of this have also been great. Also backstage at Daily Show he once asked me to punch up a joke for him and I think he used my idea so honestly he’s alright in my book.
  4. Dave Chapelle: 8:46 - new special on YouTube. Hit me like a ton of bricks.
  5. Patton Oswalt: I Love Everything - saw this tour of his and really enjoyed his set. The Denny’s rant at the end is worth the price of admission.
  6. Hannah Gadsby: Douglas - loved the way this ramped up to a firework display of callbacks.
  7. Reunited Apart - series on YouTube by Josh Gad where he just reunites casts from popular movies and they tell stories and catch up. Didn’t think I’d like it but it turns out I love it. The Lord of The Rings episode made me tear up when Ian McKellen recited some of his lines from the movies. Highly recommend.
  8. Somebody Feed Phil - One of my favorite shows on Netflix, new season just came out and Phil goes to Chicago, so I was thrilled. Watched all the eps in one day. LOVE this show.
  9. Queer Eye Season 5 - same as above. Jemma and I flew through these in a day. Watching these is therapeutic for me.
  10. RuPauls Drag Race seasons 7, 8 & 9. RuPauls All-Stars: Seasons 1, 2 & 3 - Not gonna lie. Jemma and I watch 2 to 6 episodes a day and we’re almost caught up. All Stars season 2 is one of the best seasons of tv I’ve ever seen. Still obsessed with this show to the point where Jemma got me a personal video from Jinkx Monsoon for my birthday.
  11. Too Hot To Handle - We watched one episode and couldn’t do it. I love trash reality tv but this just seemed gross.
  12. The Shivering Truth and JJ Villards Fairy Tales - watched a few episodes of each of these Adult Swim animated shows while very high and I remember being mesmerized by Shivering Truth and disgusted by Fairy Tales. So get high and make the same mistake?

Other stuff: Celebrity IOU, Harley Quinn Season 2, DOOM Patrol, Finished The Last Dance, Top Chef, Space Force, What We Do In The Shadows Season 2, Killing Eve Season 3

Movies

Here’s the only movies I’ve seen in the past month: Guys and Dolls, Newsies, Brandy’s Cinderella, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Dark Phoenix (woof), Spelling The Dream, Scooby Doo and The Cyber Chase

Books

1. So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo - truly one of the most eye-opening reads I’ve had. I feel like everyone should own this.

2. ME by Elton John - burned through this pretty quick. Made me like Elton more than I did. Lot’s of debaucherous tales and wild stories.

3. Vactionland by John Hodgeman - loved Medallion Status and loved this. Now I want to visit Maine.

4. Eleven Rings by Phil Jackson - The Last Dance really reignited my love of watching/reading about 90’s basketball so I picked this up and have enjoyed it immensely.

5. Wayside School: Beneath The Cloud of Doom - 25 years later Louis Sacher put out some new Wayside stories! They’re a delight!

Video Games:

1. Zelda: Breath of the Wild - I played this for about 20 hours a year or so ago and then fell off and was afraid if I picked it back up I’d forget what was going on. So I just restarted a week or so ago and my god this game is perfect. It’s really the most relaxing thing I do all day is just wander the world and cook my awful dishes. I’ve beat the first Divine Beast but I’m also taking my sweet ass time to explore every nook and cranny.

2. Unravel 2 - just started this and it’s brilliant! Jemma and I always love something we can play together (Overcooked, Snipperclips) and this delivers in a major way. You’re 2 little creatures made of string and you are tied to one another so you have to run through levels and work together to solve physical puzzles. Very excited to keep digging into this beautiful little gem.

3. Animal Crossing - I haven’t played IN A WEEK! Fuck. I think I might be done? As I turned 38 and faced my own mortality I realized I need to play video games that end, and this one unfortunately doesn’t. I might check in every bit just to see what’s up. Who knows.

Finally, here's a list of podcasts I’ve guested on in the past few weeks! Please give them a listen!

  1. Quiz Quiz Bang Bang (Japes and I were on as a team!)
  2. The Restricted Section
  3. 99 Questions

  5. Cult Classic Callback

From JPC

Hi everyone -

My newsletter section this month is going to be entirely about plugging my 24 hour charity Twitch stream on Saturday 6/27 starting at 10am. I'll be streaming for 24 hours straight and raising money to benefit the Chicago Community Bond Fund. That fund pays bond for people charged with crimes in Cook county who would not otherwise be able to afford bond. Cash bond is a pretty revolting system that disproportionately affects poor communities that have been impacted by structural violence. In the US, 2/3rds of our prison population is pre-trial detention, which means this money can actually help end mass-incarceration. I'm also aware that the fund is really well funded right now, but the folks at the bond fund are also working with other local organizations to disperse money where it's needed most.

During the 24 hour stream I'll have a bunch of guests and we'll be playing a ton of different games. It should be an absolute blast and you'll also get to watch me descend into sleep deprived madness. Also, there may or may not be a piss jar. I won't say any more about that. I'll be posting a stream schedule on my Twitter in the coming days and I'll pin it for easy access.

So, please go to twitch.tv/sharkbarkman and give me a follow and then hang out in the stream for some (or all) of the 24 hours! There will be a link during the stream where you can donate directly. Black Lives Matter. ACAB. Defund The Police. End Mass Incarceration.

Someone else recommended this on a Musical Monday feed, but if you haven't seen it Galavant on netflix is pretty perfect. Also, I haven't seen it yet because it isn't out yet, but just based on the trailer Crazy Delicious on netflix looks so fun. It's a cooking show with a very Willy Wonka vibe.
