Selfies are a must have in today's social media driven world. If you want to make friends and feel loved, posting an adorable selfie from a cute angle will get you the attention that you crave. So today we're getting started on selfies as I teach you how to channel your inner egirl!

They’re all over TikTok, Twitch, and OnlyFans, but what is an egirl/eboy and how do I take selfies like theirs? E-girl/boys are social media users who are often stereotyped as having emo and anime aesthetics and usually involved in the gaming world. Also under this umbrella are THOTs (that-ho-over-there) and general “internet sluts” or “e-thots.”

Let's get into the step-by-step!

  1. Carve out a good amount of time for prepping before you do your photoshoot, gather all your things and practice poses in the mirror before you even think about picking up a camera.
  2. You’ll need to practice your best, most flattering faces in the mirror first, giving yourself time to figure out which attributes are your best and worst features and what you want highlighted or hidden from view.
  3. You’ll need a nice flattering outfit (a few even!) clothed from head to toe, with cute shoes, accessories and all, even if you aren’t sure if you want to take photos with your feet included. You never know what angle might suit you and this outfit best, so be sure to have everything you need on hand including a variety of jewelry and hair accessories just in case you decide to change your look.
  4. Find a good backdrop for where you will want to take your photos, and be sure there is enough lighting! I usually like to take my photos during the day and in front of a window (be sure to face the window in the picture to avoid becoming a shadow person) so that I can use the natural light, with extra floor lamps put in specific “behind the scenes” places to cast the perfect shadows on me. Be sure that the room you are in isn't messy or if you're taking a mirror pic, be sure to clean the mirror and the counter space before you take photos.
  5. Get camera ready! Put on your makeup, do your hair and nails, dress to the nines! This is my favorite part of the process, getting all dolled up! I always spend the most time doing this part because I like doing fun and dramatic eye makeup looks and I like to take the time to glue on the false lashes or do fun nail art! Watch makeup tutorials to learn how to paint your face like an e-girl and maybe even draw in some false freckles for the complete look!
  6. Get your camera or use your phone’s camera, front facing if you’re lucky, to capture your photos. Use the timer for full body shots and hold your camera up at a high angle to hide unflattering features. Take dozens of photos, multiples of each pose if you can and go back later to find the best ones. Review small batches of photos during your shoot so you can make angle, wardrobe, or backdrop changes to your liking. Don’t rush and take your time to find and take the best photos.
  7. Choose photos and use filters provided by FaceTune, Canva, SnapChat, or Instagram to adjust color and remove blemishes if you don't have photoshop (or GIMP) skills.
  8. Post and rake in the attention!

Practice taking these cute poses, try to emulate each one of them and find what angles, faces, poses, and outfits suit you best! Tell a story with your pictures, show some creativity and flair and most of all, have fun!
