Ingredients:

¼ cup olive oil

5 cloves garlic, minced

½ tsp red pepper flakes

1 x 14.5 oz can petite diced tomatoes

1 x 28 oz. can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed

1 lb. ground beef

1 large egg

½ cup dried breadcrumbs

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. parsley

¼ cup fresh basil, diced

Salt and pepper, to taste

12 oz. cooked pasta

Directions:

Heat a large saucepot over medium-low until hot. Add olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes to pan, stirring constantly while cooking for 30 seconds, or until garlic is softened and fragrant.

Add diced and peeled tomatoes to the pot, stirring to combine. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover the pot and turn the heat to low.

Add ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, salt, and parsley to a medium-sized mixing bowl. Using your hands, mix and knead until ingredients are uniform throughout. Roll meat mixture into balls roughly 1-inch in diameter.

Add meatballs to sauce, stirring gently until combined. Let sauce simmer, stirring every 15 minutes, for at least 1 hour or until meatballs have been cooked through.

Stir basil into sauce just before serving over pasta.  Bon appetit!
