So thanks to the some recent feedback and some experimentation an idea has crossed my mind when it comes to laying out the levels with this new 3D Environment/Rotating Camera system. And that is going with the method on how old Resident Evil and other PS1 Horror games did their level systems.

For those that don't know, games like classic Resident Evil and many old PS1 Horror games would basically have each room be its own little levels rather then all the rooms being a part of one level.

So taking that idea, I am thinking of doing something similar for Wrapturous Adventure. Now this set up offers a couple of advantages especially more me as a developer and could be a useful in gameplay.

  • Improving game performance sense instead of rendering all the rooms and having constant data running on like say 15-30 AI enemies, it only needs to run like a small number that are in the current room Yui is in.
  • Systems that require resetting themselves or have some randomization, are much easy to set up sense they basically are already reset every time they get loaded in when the player enters the room.
  • No outside rooms to worry getting scene or obscuring the camera when players are rotating the camera view.

There are probably a few more things I could mention, but I think you get the idea and honestly depending on how I set it up the systems, you probably wouldn't notice it cause it probably not gonna change much on how the game felt like compared to current versions of the demo (beside the rotating camera and 3D world set-up, but that is a different thing). Of course if you have any thoughts or concerns please post a comment or discuss it on the Discord.
