Obi-Wan Kenobi: Episodes 5 and 6 - re:View

It's time to talk about recycling! I mean Star Wars! Mike, Jay and Witch Evans sit down to discuss the last two episodes of Orba Wand Kenobi! What will happen? Star Wars things happen that we've seen before. Rich Evan's unwashed hands are rubbed in his own face resulting in pink eye AND Covid infections that he then spreads to thousands later at his one man show "Evans Live on the Sunset Strip" which he performs in Milwaukee, WI. During this live event Evans vomits up Clown Soup™ and spits on his fans. He then drives away in his new Rolls Royce that Walt Disney's head bought him for saying that he kind of liked Star Whores Renobi.com. How does the RLM guys feel about these things you see? When? How did they watch they shows and realize that Star Wars is basically the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. Lightsabers. Stormtroopers. Dark Vader. Resistance. Empire. Jedi. Tickets for Rich Evans one man show are now on sale on the official CDC website. If you're lucky enough he might spit on you as he sails away on his yacht to Epstein's island (which he purchased with Disney cash). He does NOT, however, enjoy the company of under-aged women. He uses his private island to indulge in something much worse. Pouring hot Clown Soup™ all over his balls.

Honestly, it’s a testament to how dead Star Wars is and how little you guys care now that this wasn’t more in the tone of the Picard and discovery reviews. This show was steaming shite in so many ways that were just brushed aside by all but maybe Jay… RIP Star Wars… ugh, I just realized there’s gonna be a third season of Picard, excuse me, I’m going to go puke now…

Oh, and no, while I think you took it relatively easy on this show, I don’t think you’ve sold out. When I start seeing articles about you wrecking your bungalow at Chateau Mormont in the trades, then I’ll unsubscribe hahaha…

I think you're 100% right with this. The prequels killed all the love and interest these guys had in Star Wars, so by the time this shit shows up they no longer care, so it just washes over them. But with Star Trek they still had love and interest there, so they were really upset by the new stuff they were seeing. That's the only difference.

The most amazing thing about this Obi Wan show is that it seems to confirm that most fans today prefer the prequels over the original trilogy. I say that because Vader and Obi Wan having these exchanges seems to basically undercut the significance of their meeting in Episode IV, and it does this in service of giving the fans who loved the lava fight in Episode III some rematches, only with Anakin in the Vader outfit now. The prequels failed to create any interesting characters at all, but a lot of people apparently grew up on those movies just loving the lightsaber battles, so this is just building on that. This series did absolutely nothing in service as a prequel to the original trilogy (if anything it breaks the continuity there), but is instead just a sequel to the prequels. And evidently that's what most Star Wars fans want nowadays: not more stuff that builds on the original trilogy, but more prequels-related content. As someone who grew up with the original trilogy, it's really been wild to see the prequels go from laughable mistakes to being even more beloved than the original films. I guess in the end all people want is lots of crazy lightsaber fights. The prequels definitely had those.

I think the last film with Luke Skywalker in, where he fights that guy in front of theATATs would have been better if Luke brought the ATAT down to their knees using the force. Would have looked great.

The idea of Qui-gon appearing to Obi-wan and saying “It’s not your fault” just makes me think of this turning into Star Wars Good Will Hunting.

I pay $2 a month so that I can log on here once a month and ask what you think of the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.

This show was like the quintessential “you wouldn’t notice the problems if you were engaged” for me. I don’t really care about Star Wars canon at this point either, it’s more how sloppy most segments of the show were. Like when Vader decides to go after Obi Wan instead of the refugees. You can ignore that they should have Tie Fighters, but then Vader ends up going alone in his own shuttle thirty seconds later. So why can’t he do that in the first place? This show is littered with gaps in internal logic that with very minor and obvious tweaks could be resolved. And when I’m bored out of my mind, I can’t help but focus on all of them. Star Wars is just super sloppy and none of these shows are even as good as an average MCU series, which isn’t exactly high art either.

YES!! I have been waiting to hear the repairmen talk about EEAAO and I literally just made a patreon account for the very first time to support these frauds

I agree that Leia did not need to be in this. The entire series could have simply been "Empire claims they captured Yoda. Since Yoda knows what happened to Luke and Leia, Kenobi leaves Tatooine to see if the rumors are true and whether the children are in danger of discovery. Turns out it was a trap by Inquisitors to lure Jedi out of hiding and the series is Kenobi trying to escape this net. Vader learns they found Kenobi in the operation and gets involved. Kenobi learns Vader is actually Anakin. Kenobi vows to not leave Tatooine again."

In one paragraph you just came up with a better story than professional writers could in six episodes.

There are a lot of movies that I loved as a kid that have not aged well re-watching them as an adult, but I still like them because I have found memories watching them as a kid. Rich Evans comments about both Ice Pirates and Spacehunter in their Re:View episodes are good examples. I really enjoyed both films as a kid but you can really see the flaws when watching them as an adult. I think the prequels fall under that category for a lot of people who saw them as kids. Makes me wonder if the older adults who saw the original Star Wars in the 70s were saying the same thing as us. Some old fart saying "That trench run was just a remake from my favorite war movie "The Dam Busters!" Which it basically was.....

I think a lot of it is the lack of experimentation due to corporate brand oversight. The Mandalorian (at least season 1) worked so well because it relied a lot on Western tropes. Just like how the original film series a lot on Samurai tropes when dealing with lightsabers. It is why I think there was early interest in those spin-off films. Rogue One is going to be a Dirty Dozen style war film, interesting. Solo is going to be a heist film, cool. Then you get board members and idiot producers who are like "Fill it with old and new merchandise!" "Here are 10 plot holes mentioned in Youtube clickbait videos you need to fix!" "Remember, this is Disney so no swearing or gritty violence!" "Put in 50 easter eggs to other Star Wars media so Youtube influencers will create dozens of videos about them!"
