I feel bad now for Rich Evans, and that I like Gorilla Interrupted so much. Kinda reminds me of the production of The Shining, where Kubrick seems to have treated Shelley Duvall like shit to get a better performance out of her.

I can't believe it's been nearly 12 years since Evil Dead 4 was released... Drag Me to Hell. Would love to see a re:View on that. In the 3 visits to see it play in a theatre, as Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorite films of all time, I knew that there were maybe 3 people who left satisfied: Raimi fans. Everyone else was either hoping for Paranormal Activity or a supernatural Saw type movie. Horror was in a sad state in 2009.

"I can't believe it's been nearly 12 years since Evil Dead 4 was released... Drag Me to Hell." Blasphemy...

It warms my heart to see all the Sam Raimi love. 30 years ago when I first was in university Film Studies, for our first class we had the informal "get to know you" chat around the room. When asked what my favourite film was, I said "Evil Dead II". The professor replied with a cold "You'd better have a good reason for saying that in my classroom", or something to that effect. I suppose I should have said Fellini or De Sica like everyone else was.

Kubrick's movies all feel distant, albeit their technically really well made. I wonder how much Kubrick was personally involved with his movies. Gorilla Interrupted for example feels like a personal statement of the writer on coming of age and love. Space Cop is better on every technical level than Gorilla Interrupted, but it seems to be without a personal statement on whatever the writer was experiencing on a personal level at that time. And that's perfectly fine, it's just my personal feeling why I like Gorilla Interrupted better story-wise and for its energy.

Surprised you could hear him reply since his head was all the way up his own ass lol

This is what it’s all about.

Danny Elfman said in an interview that he hates when directors use “temp” music because it can affect soundtrack composing. But I guess he’s been temping himself since Batman 1989.

About the Coen Bros connection, there is a scene in Darkman that hinges upon him being “behind the line” in order to win the giant Pink Elephant. Gotta be the inspiration for Walter’s “over the line” tirade in Big Lebowski.

Watching this Darkman had me thinking about Hollow Man, so I looked it up only to find out just then it was a Verhoven film. I was pretty shocked, especially after watching it again for the first time in 20 years. It also had me thinking how in the Total Recall re:View Rich was wanting for more Verhoven sci-fi, and here was one with none of the parody.

Seriously how spectacular is this movie? And how pitch-perfect are Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand? That entire carnival scene is so fantastic….
