A dull but in this instance correct man once said "We all wear masks, metaphorically speaking."  Sometimes, when we can distance who we are from who people perceive us to be, we pretend to be someone outside of who we think we are or where we stand in society.  This can lead to great and terrible things, or maybe just a small opportunity to connect, for better or for worse.

Minali is an Angler, and has the hangups that come with that.  She doesn't think herself particularly cute now, nor does she think she has a lot to look forward to even though she doesn't know exactly what the future holds for her.  For now, she'll hide behind the persona she projects onto her lure, someone more glamorous and social than her true shy, yet equally as extroverted, self.   It starts out innocent enough, but as she grows older and both more convicted that this is the only way she can function and more desperate as her loneliness builds more stress and anxiety, she may very well head down a dark path if she neither reaches out nor is reached out to.
