Software eng here. Specialty in information theory, computer vision, and distributed systems. It is isn't actually as stupid as it sounds to be using heartbeats to communicate. If we're operating off the fact that the heartbeat information can be accurately obtained because they're in special confinement, then the only real challenge is being able to manipulate the heartbeat in order to relay certain messages. I'll try to keep my examples short and concise. This is a plot hole if the explanation behind him being able to manipulate his heartbeat is simply because "he's him". Possible algorithms: 1) Take the time between heartbeats and correspond the data between either "0" or "1". Thus being able to build up messages this way. This is the very primitive form of the algorithm and many techniques could be employed to be able to map data to larger constructs(rather than just calculating time intervals between the heartbeats, secondary information can be attained from amplitude, frequency, wavelengths) like words and sentences. 2) Hide messages in an ECG signal. You can then use signal processing techniques. Height of different waves can be used to represent different bits of information. Durations of electrical activity, shapes the waves take in the signal. Signal processing techniques(AI and non-AI) could then be used to filter out noise. Obviously there are flaws in these approaches - but the main premise is actually not stupid. You would be surprised as to what kind of amazing techniques spy agencies like the CIA come up with. I think this show uses technical concepts well at times. The "Eyes of God" thing is also not too far fetched either(Basically advanced Computer Vision).

Remember that on Patreon, we are watching the unofficial subs, the Trio should be watching the official subs which is on Crunchyroll, and on there, the subs there basically said it was a Dazai’s party trick, not that only he can do that trick So no real plot hole there, plus, there should be more to it than that considering theres also Ango’s ability to read memories of objects which can add a new layer of complicity to it

Okay, I'll explain (it's in an omake from vol. 6, so I guess it's not a spoiler because they chose not to animate it? If anyone considers this a spoiler, then please stop reading!) Basically, when Kyouka joins the agency, she asks the others about Atsushi’s haircut, and no one really knows about it, so Dazai suggests that she asks him directly. Atsushi makes no big deal of it, and he tells her that he doesn’t like it much either, but his haircut is like this because of some “pranks” from the other kids at the orphanage (basically because of bullying), and he simply never fixed it. So, of course they all feel bad for him and Kyouka offers him a snack. It’s a sad story, but it’s also super wholesome how the other members of the agency try to cheer him up, when Atsushi actually wasn’t making a big deal out of it.

Yeah exactly. You don't need to be able to even express an entire language. Any person can manipulate their heartbeat to some extent. Train them and they will be able to manipulate it even further(it isn't even difficult either). You can express numbers in binary form the way I did above very easily and have those numbers map to strategies/sentences. Think of a dictionary with 100 entries and for each entry there exists a playbook to follow by. With time a person can memorize 100 mappings quite easily. Or you can even make a formula to do that for you so you don't need to memorize things. Long story short it really isn't anime bullshit. I just wanted to point it out. You can actually achieve something effective quite easily in this context because the hard part(getting the heartbeat data) is already achieved reliably for you by the prison. Like there are systems where you have literal pigeons carrying IP packets(network data). Google rfc1149 lol.
