From the moment he showed up in episode 1, I had my eye on him. "Fox-faced" characters (closed eyes and constantly smiling) almost always have something more going on. Up until this episode, I thought he was gunna be a mole for the Port Mafia or something. Couldn't be happier I was wrong.

I think he's a Savant. Seeing how he can't do simple things like get the marble out and commute but has above genius level deduction skills. Dope character though.

I see what you mean. He very well could be. But I think it's meant to be more ironic than anything else (especially since it's seldom addressed after this episode). Though, him being a savant makes it easier to argue against this quirk being a weird inconsistency in the character writing.

One my favorite facts about Bungo stray dogs is that you can actually figure out Rampo doesn't have an ability because his is the only one that isn't a literary reference and is just a description of his ability.

Rampo is retarded because his brain uses 100% of its resources for Deduction, hence he literally can't do anything but deduce shit and thus needs someone else to do every other kind of processing for him instead
