Jesse Gallimore

The dialogue between the guardians is supposed to give the viewer insight into what is going on but it's a little irksome that they made it seem like Demiurge was so clueless considering he is the most intelligent being in Nazarik and a master strategist. Ainz' plan at the end was to get Shalltear's health low enough that he could one-shot her with a super tier magic attack and since he has superior magic defence he wouldn't be hurt very badly by it. The item he used cancels out the long cast time of the super tier magic. However, he hesitated at the last second before activating it because he was having doubts about killing Shalltear. In that moment Shalltear was about to attack him and life-steal enough health to survive the magic, but Aura, who was watching from afar, used a skill to distract her, which is what that eyeball thing was. Then Ainz came back to his senses and finished her off. Shorty is the nickname Shalltear gives Aura. If you recall, Aura's creator is the real-life big sister of Shalltear's creator so they have a sibling-esque relationship. Shalltear was thinking of her as she died. The crystal was what Ainz showed the adventurers guild to convince them that he would be able to take down the vampire and why they let him go handle it himself. Since he doesn't want anyone to know about his super tier magic he's using the excuse that he broke the eighth tier magic crystal during their battle and that's why the landscape was destroyed. He is assuming that no one would be willing to break their own high tiered magic crystal just to prove him wrong since they are such rare and valuable items. Thus no one would find out his secret that he's not actually an adventurer named Momon, but a godly undead spellcaster. The scenes at the very end will only make sense next season so don't worry about that. Glad you enjoyed the fight so much.

You don't have to worry that much about the Slane Theocracy, you will get a bit more info in the next 2 Seasons, but even at the End there isn't much we know about them. As far as i know, i think the reason why S4 will take a long time to be released is because there is a lot of stuff in the Novel that is connected over multiple volumes which is one big Arc, and i think a lot of stuff going on there is about the Slane Theocracy. So if i'am not mistaking, we probably will find out more about them in S4... but i think we will have to wait till 2021 atleast for that.

Jesse Gallimore

Indeed, there is so much going on in fact that I'm worried they're going to skip over large swathes of it. Either way, I'm excited for season 4.

Dan McKellar

I was about to say, the last 5 minutes or so are pretty much set up for the next season.

AwakeProductions

Oh man I feel bad guys. I feel like I misunderstood a lot of it. I’m too dumb to watch this show. 😖

Jesse Gallimore

You really aren't dumb. It's just that the Light Novel goes into immaculate detail about what is going on and even gives you all of Ainz' inner monologues while the anime is just trying their best to fit the story together without taking up a bunch of time. There really isn't anything coherent about the way the directors have it jump-cut around and vaguely explain things in short sentences like they're a kung-fu master prophesying the mysteries of the universe. You would have to watch all three seasons and then go back and watch them again for it all to make sense. And even then a lot of info is left out entirely which is why we always have so much to say in the comments.

NinoDonDino

Yeah, i'am excited aswell for Season 4... but it still takes so long until it will be released... Overlord is one of my favorite Animes, because i love the setting and characters and its overall so unique.

Jesse Gallimore

Have you been watching the simulcast for Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou? It's another great isekai. While the anime isn't quite on par with Overlord imo, the LN is just as good as Overlord's. It's got major Rising of the Shield Hero vibes except the MC is even more badass. When the time comes for a new poll I wanna try and get it added to the list.

NinoDonDino

in the last few months i didn't really watched much anime, so no, i didnt watched Arifureta.

Kevin Baker

I like the character interactions in Arifureta but dang are the fights full of bad cgi and 0 tension, beyond the first ep or so. On the other hand, the comedy aspects are redeeming it for me. Mea Culpa: haven't read manga/ln.

Kevin Baker

What Jesse said! I also read the LN's and it gives a heck of a lot of insight that's absent from the anime. Also, praise the Pope. (that's from the last Light Novel, which I hope you get to read, if you get the time)

Ainz only used the armor from Touch Me. All the other weapons are cash shop items. He may not have a trick up his sleeve, more like having a credit card in his pocket. He defeated Shalltear with the power of pay-to-win. There is a lot of character building starting in season 2. Some people don't like the lizard man arc because there is not much action in the beginning. Attacking the lizard man village is the first conscious effort by Ainz to expand his influence through force. Part of why Overlord is so good is because the main character does the necessary evil to get things done. He is not a one-dimensional character. Ainz is also paranoid about the NPC's rebelling against him if they deem him not competent enough as a leader, or if they find out he used to be human, since all the NPC's are monsters and a lot of them despise human. The scriptures are like different groups of special forces for the Slane Theocracy. The Sunlit Scripture was the group of mages who attacked Carnie village and defeated by Ainz. They were all brought to Nazarick, tortured for information, and used for experiments by Dimiurge.

Jesse Gallimore

Bad CGI has never bothered me but I get what you're saying. The comedy does make it worth it. And if you're interested, the LN goes much further in-depth when explaining the characters' relationships. Hajime and Yue are essentially married but they don't get it across well in the anime. And if you're a man of culture you'll be glad to know that they totally do the sex. Like a lot.

Jesse Gallimore

My favorite part of Overlord is Ainz' outlook on life in the new world. After an endless series of cliche protagonists, Ainz is a breath of fresh air. He may not be a good guy but he's a man of principle and he will let a bitch know.

The Soldier

the weapons themselves arent cashshop items, the ability to swap to them via those wooden sticks is the cash shop item...

All of what the people above me said^^ I totally get that some people have their issues with Ainz' & friends' approach to defending Nazarick (killing a bunch of stuff to get material for undead), but I think that's partially what sets Overlord apart from other shows around: the main character is neither a goody-two-shoes hero who saves the day, nor a good guy who just pretends to be an asshole to play it cool, he actually has a dark side...+ the kingdom building he's doing and all the planning and thought he is putting into his plans, which gets revealed during or after executing them. We said the last episode was gonna be awesome, did we promise to much? 🙃 😜

Having to rely on using a magic-sealing crystal to defeat the vampire is a more believable story than using Mommon's own strength. That must be the reason for the crystal cover-up story.
