Behind the scenes writing: Episode 5 (5/6) (Patreon)

This is a behind the scenes look at the upcoming episode writing, which will cover what are called "events" during the episode. Episode 5 is looking to be around 35-40k word count, which is our biggest episode yet and added with the other content planned for v0.20 it'll be our biggest update yet in general.

Continuing from last time... After the guys nearly get in big trouble with the kickboxing team, they hurry along the hallway. Which where where Erika runs into them as she's on her way to the literature club. She briefly introduces herself as Brandon's little sister and it catches the guys attention.

While briefly chatting, she suggests that since the guys seem interested. They should tag along with her to the literature club, as they can check out the club like they've been doing with other clubs. She continues on about the club, but the more she mentions, the less interest shows on the guys faces. In the end Joey and Nathan decide to make excuses to head off on their own instead.

Brandon doesn't want to upset his sister and decides he'll stay along and check the literature club out. So the two head there and we quickly meet the club leader Garnet and another member named Roxie, who seems in the middle of preparing stuff on their table for a meeting.

After brief introductions and some general chatting, the meeting they had planned can begin and Garnet allows Brandon to attend, although Roxie seems a bit against it since he isn't part of their club, etc. Regardless, Garnet thinks it'd be great to have some insight on their meeting discussion from a outsider that isn't part of the club anyways.

The meeting begins and we learn that they're discussing plans about a future festival coming up. The girls discuss ideas for what they can possibly do for their club during the festival and Brandon tries to help them out along the way with some ideas to offer.

Things seem to be easing up for Brandon, getting used to the girls as they discuss ideas and plans. During their discussions though, Erika suddenly farts and interrupts the talks, causing the room to become silent for a brief second before Garnet bursts into laughter. While Roxie seemed a bit disgusted, but Garnet can't help but mention it's a bit funny because apparently Erika seems to do this often since she's joined them. Which of course sparks Brandon to joke about his sister, causing her to get pouty towards him.

As things settle back down and they continue discussing plans and general literature club stuff to bring up. Garnet seems to be acting a bit awkward, her face becoming flushed and it seems like there's some diaper crinkling going on below the table across from Brandon, making him realize what might be possibly happening...

~Writers notes~

-This just about covers the sixth event of episode 5. It doesn't seem like a lot going on, but I assure you there's quite a bit of time spent with these characters during this event. :P It'll act as a good way to see what Erika does with her club activities and when she isn't spending most of her time with Miki.

-Part of me wanted to swap the point of view into Erika's shoes for this event actually, but as I moved along with things. It felt like it'd be too forceful to do that here, plus I didn't want to take away the protag feeling from Brandon this early. (For those unaware, older versions of the game had a moment within Erika's route where players see things through her pov.) We'll still see some moments from Erika's pov as it really helps fill in the blanks for the two siblings relationship, just not during episode 5.

-I really wanted to get some screen time for Garnet and Roxie, both in general and the cg art. I think this whole event should feel pretty fitting and also give some insight into stuff ahead for Erika's route for newcomers to the series. I think being able to see Garnet and Roxie interact a bit together like this, will help give a good first impression of these characters compared to how things kind of went before.

-Garnet still has a crush on Brandon like the old versions of the game. We'll get some subtle hints of this during this event.

-I hope that fans of Erika will enjoy getting some more bookworm literature club feeling stuff out of this event. I can't promise it'll be totally book dork quality stuff during the whole of this event, but it'll give a taste of what we can expect from their club and Erika's more recent interest in books since Brandon last remembered his sister from long ago.
