Cliff will become a pretty important character in S2 that comes out this year, this story was in the novel but it was cut out, likely to not interrupt the flow of things that were going on between Rudy and Paul. Some minor information that weren't spelled out by the anime: Cliff seems really small but that's because he is a half-halfling, he is actually a year older than Rudy. He was an orphan and was adopted by the son of the current pope. In the Millis Religion there is a power struggle happening at the time between the Pope, who is trying to reform things and coexist with demons and a Cardinal that is the head of a faction that wants to completely expulse demons from their lands, seeing them as enemies, some seeing them as filthy and inferior. The Blessed child (meaning she has a special ability from birth just like Zanoba) is under the protection/control of the Cardinals faction and is a powerful asset in the power struggle. BTW the Knight that was with the child Therese Latria is Zenith's sister, the Latria family is quite important in Millishon and is a strong supporter of the Cardinals faction. They are part of the reasons why Paul has set up his search party in Millishion, he gets some backing from them and they took care of Norn when he wasn't there. This was skipped in the anime, after Dead End left Millishion and headed for their home they had to get onto another ship, it should have all worked out because of the letter and money they got from Paul but the guy in charge at the harbor was also against demons so he tried to make things hard for them. Therese helped them out to get onto the ship without trouble, she was stationed there after the assassination attempt on the Blessed Child.
