Currency Change Starting 2024 (Patreon)

Hey Patrons!

After careful consideration, I've decided to change the currency on Patreon to EUR starting January 2024. This decision was made to address the abusive conversion fees imposed by PayPal, ensuring that more of your generous support goes directly towards supporting the content you love.


🤔 What does this mean for you?

NO ACTION IS REQUIRED ON YOUR SIDE but if you're currently supporting me in a different currency, you might want to consider switching your pledge to EUR. This small change can make a big difference by minimizing unnecessary fees and ensuring that a greater portion of your contribution directly supports the content.


📃How to switch your pledge to EUR:

  • Log in to your Patreon account.
  • Go to the "My Membership" section.
  • Find your pledge and click "Edit."
  • Select EUR as your preferred currency.
  • Save your changes, and you're all set!


🤷‍♂️Why the switch?

As a Non-US resident, Patreon forces me to withdraw funds ONLY via Paypal instead of direct transfer to my bank account. This means I have to pay fees to both Patreon (Which obviously makes sense since it's their platform, duh!) and PayPal (Well...). 

PayPal's abusive policies and conversion fees have been taking a significant chunk of my income. By switching to EUR, I’m taking a step to ensure that more of your contributions go towards creating the content you enjoy.


👍Adding a Payout Method:

Please make sure to add a payout method in the new currency (EUR) so that I can continue delivering awesome content without any interruptions.

A little wonky on my phone app but I figured it out!

Ok. It took a couple tries to work out what I needed to do. If you're having trouble, like me, you have to select that you want to edit your payment method, then change your preferred currency (near the bottom of the page) to euros. While this will change the default currency you see on Patreon to euros, any pledges you make in dollars (or whatever your local currency is) will remain in that currency. So if you back someone new, remember to change your preferred currency back to your local currency or you'll still be dealing in euros.
