Gadget Cooling off Behind the Scenes (Patreon)

Here are some random little tidbits about the recent Gadget piece. :>
I usually go: Character, then background, then shadow shapes.
In this case I did the basic shading of the character first. Basic for me means that I pretend to be the light source and each form that faces away from me gets a bit darker. I'll also add occlusion shadows (the dark areas where forms are in very close proximity. Like armpits, crotch or the area under the chin).
During this phase I decided on what to do with the background and shadows. You can even see my scribbly notes at the side. :D
For the background I just drew the cool flying machine and behind that a bit of a jungle scene, just like in the tiny reference screenshot from the show. I did a jungle background before on the piece with the buck hanging upside down, so I just took that and picked the colors from it.
Then I added the shadows with a simple multiply layer and did some minor adjustments like blurring the shadow layers and reducing the contrast of the background a bit to make the character pop more.
