Is this Christmas-related? The jury's still out. BUT, it's a classic motion picture simply brimming with cack that demands a pod all of its own. Annie is a 1982 musical based on the nightmarish Broadway show of the same name. Picture the most bizarre Bob Ross-looking little girl in the world flopping her way around an orphanage with a dog she stole off the street and you've got it. Carol Burnett also says Bonus Eyerees a few times.

PS!! Hannigan pouring juniper flavor into the bath is likely a reference to “bathtub gin.” Annie is set during the period of Alcohol Prohibition in the United States. It was not uncommon for people to make homemade spirits using cheap grain alcohol mixed with separately acquired flavorings. An Orphanage Matron doing it in her bathtub is likely apocryphal - but it does make it extra funny when she falls butt-first into that same tub during a song later in the movie. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_gin

Well this was a blast from my long forgotten past! When I was a kid, on a Friday evening my sister and I were allowed to pick one movie each to rent from the local corner shop who had probably a total sum of 20 different videos to choose from… my sister picked this movie without fail every week. Until the day came that my parents bought her her own copy for Christmas. The story is embedded into my brain but looking back now it really was very dark. Miss Hannigan is brilliant though. And I love Tim Curry in everything he has ever done. Annie herself was highly irritating.

I agree that guncle is the worst portmanteau, it sounds to me like gunt and cankle. Also the term "Daddy Warbucks" has always given me the ick...

Let me tell you how excited I was to read in the intro Annie posted Xmas Eve. I thought would get all the finishing done of the day, presents wrapped, food marinating and house cleaned. So excited Annie. Had a huge dinner and lots of drinks with friends. Cuddled up into bed with my earpods fully charged so excited it was Annie. I knew I would be doing some deep dives in to youtube after your pod listening to all the tracks on Annie and singing away in my inebreated state. What a wonderful xmas eve and way to bring in Xmas day. Press play. Annie the Musical not Annie Lennox the Diva. Xmas ruined!!
