...and it's a Full Of Bard starring Nova 'Willy' Shakes. William Shakespeare is a name celebrated and feared the world over, as hoards of school children are forced to read his great works and think 'wtf is that'. I've invited Nova onto the pod today to take a trip down memory lane while we discuss which of Shakespeare's plays we studied at school and why his contribution to the world of literature is so important.

Always love a Full of Boeuf with Nora. English Literature was one of my least favourite subjects at school. I always hated how everything was abstract and nothing we read was of any interest to me. Our English teacher was also a drama teacher so she took every opportunity to turn the lesson into a drama class. Every other week she’d drag us all to the drama studio to read out Carol Ann Duffy’s poems or perform passages of Macbeth, despite the fact that none of it was of any use to us in the exams. After 2 years of that it put me off poems and Shakespeare for life. I sometimes wonder if poets like Carol Ann Duffy are aware of how much suffering their poems cause teenagers throughout the country. In the words of Mary Shelley (played by Katy Brand in Psychobitches): Poems are Gay!

I remember watching the Olivia Hussey version in high school and thinking…I want Claire Danes and more sweating.
