Searching For Sugar Man is a 2012 documentary about a mysterious search conducted by two men who were looking into the history of a popular singer in South Africa. Armed with urban legends of the grisly death of American recording artist Sixto Rodrigues, the men would go on to uncover a once-in-a-lifetime truth that you honestly couldn't write.

Soz for the double comment but you dropped this like an hour after I commented it but PLEASE Lymp make a Full of It about Saw in anticipation for Saw X in two weeks!

NotThatLinda

Lympi, I think the word you wanted was "misophonia": a strong dislike or hatred of certain sounds. Tom's Full of It bingo card is great, but it omits something vital: the customary consultation of Wikipedia =-p

The advice podcast is a good genre as it’s got audience participation and a never ending premise, my suggestion - “Absolute Agony” ‘The advice podcast that tries its best to help. Send your problems, issues and worries into Novympia and they will try their fuckidiest to not make it worse’

Ah i watched this doc recently, and it was fantastic. Oh I remember the urban legend of the frosties kid, although at my school the rumour was he put coins in his nose then slammed his face into a table so theyd go into the brain ( which is a such a weirdly vivid and random way to go)

Thank you for another informative and entertaining pod! Also, thank you to you and Nova for putting together these travel vlogs, I am sure they are a lot of work. The Salem was one incredible and I am sure filming everything can be taxing. Also, a big thank you to all your friends for allowing us to follow your journey. I can't wait to see the haul from Salem. The first time I went, I was 15, obsessed with the Cure and dressing goth/alternative. I also wanted everything. Unfortunately, I had very little money and it was a couple of years before internet shopping. So, I thought about all the neat items I saw for years🖤

My heart! Great pod and such a sweet story. Love when a humble person gets their dues - reminds me so much of Bettie Page’s life story. I just got back from New Orleans and if you are looking for another witchy, queer friendly, historic and beautiful place to visit, I would highly suggest it! The architecture alone made me swoon and the people were so kind!

I'm a new patron and when I saw the subject of this episode it gave me the final push to join. My former mother-in-law is South African and she showed me this documentary a few years ago. She was so excited to share it because she loved Rodriguez but as you say nobody had heard of him outside of SA. It's not something I had thought about in ages but I heard the song Sugar Man at a pub I was in the other weekend as well, which feels like a strange coincidence. Anyway, I just wanted to say that your videos frequently make me cackle out loud and probably annoy the neighbours. I really enjoyed the podcast and will definitely be working my way through previous episodes. Thank you for the great entertainment!

An amazing pod, I’ve really enjoyed listening to all these stories, and your lovely voice just draws me in even more. I’m a new patron and first time commenter and wanted to say hi. I was curious if you’ve ever heard of the story of the Barra boy. He is a young boy called Cameron MacAuley who could recall in almost perfect detail his past life of living on the island of Barra, a place that neither he or his family had ever visited. It’s very interesting and though provoking about the ideas of reincarnation and thought it might be something you’d find interesting.

Fab podcast as always! I haven’t been able to comment for a while as I have been buying and moving into my first house and it’s all been a bit mad (I feel like I need to comment now for the bingo lol). I remember watching a documentary about Sugarman a few years ago and was fascinated. It’s really sad to hear that he’s passed away but I’m glad he got to see just how many people loved and celebrated his music before he was gone.
