In the last episode it was brought to my attention in alarming fashion that I've never done a pod about my main bird, AvLav. While I'll obviously be talking about her at large, I'm using her in this discussion as an anchor-point to discuss how she helped me traverse a wild teenage experience.

Ooh absolutely fabulous. Been dying to hear this episode ! Avril was a big part of my growing up, and I adore the her first 3 album. I find randomly in winter Ill just randomly just say "It's a damn cold night" in all the dramatic Avril way. I think I was in the same boat with Christian music haha Im a total atheist and have always been but I had a lot of bands I loved and didnt realise until I was older that it was christian rock haha. I will say as a gay who has their icon, I think mine has to be a tie between Cher/Dolly/Whitney, I just adore all of their stuff even the total shite.

My opening system in my day was windows XP (the best windows system in my opinion) x Aah Limewire 💚 The memories of waiting for HOURS downloading that one song or episode that wasn't that popular and opening the floodgates to computer viruses lol

Take a listen to how early 2000s and how gay this is: when this song came out, I was six years old, and I begged my sister to download the song on lime wire or Bear Share, and for her to write down the lyrics for me. And I remember sitting in my sisters room, while she paused the music every few seconds to write down the lyrics 😂🤭. My sister and you are about the same age I think, she was born in 1987, so I grew up with basically someone exactly like you in the house. Who I would reference movies with that we watched, and we would just absolutely die. 😭😂But Avril Lavigne was our absolute favorite for like a long time. My sister would call into TRL, and request complicated all the time one year. Also, I find it a little hilarious that she was all about being 6 feet apart way before Covid, the proof is there she was trying to tell us something this whole time! 😂😭

I LOVE Avril. When Let Go came out i think i was 10/11 years old and she was my emo/skater/alt awakening 😂 (“Emo” wasn’t really a thing back then but thats basically what it was!) me and my friends would go to Tammy Girl and buy stripey ties and baggy 3 quarter shorts and jump on my bed with Let Go on repeat. Let Go has SO. MANY. BANGERS. My World, Mobile, Anything But Ordinary, Things i’ll Never Say, Unwanted!!!! omg those songs just fill me up with joy ❤️ i’m now sat listening to Avril as it rains outside doing a bit of lip syncing pretending i’m in the music video for I’m With You or something 😂 i swear to god we loved all the same things in childhood/teen years. Limewire, Habbo, music channels, Stardolls (the paper doll website where you’d drag and drop the clothes), The Sims, MSN! I sometimes listen to the Sims soundtracks on Youtube for the comfort factor 😂 i just know we would’ve been friends even though i was all the way up in Sunderland!

Thanks Lymp for the lurrrvely pod about AvLav. Can honestly say I'm a gay that has never had a diva obsession. Instead, my gayness came out in an obsession with musical theatre and Disney soundtracks in the 90's. Pretty much got the shit ripped out of me for that at secondary school. I didn't touch pop music all through my teens which was totally embarrasing when it came to my secondary school disco when I knew none of the songs everyone was dancing to. Very excited to get another poddy with you and Nogger. I do actually prefer your pod and video content where you are discussing your opinions about random shit, so very much looking forward to the 'VympCast' (wink wink) I remember previously mentioning whether you would consider bringing in special guests to your pod chats from your little black book of the UK drag community or even some of your eccentric friends (Char, Meg-Anne, Versuvia or even best-bud Al??). You said you would be up for it before. Would be really fun, I think. A bit like that classic web-series Bournemouth Queens (can't think why that didn't get picked up for a second season...lol)

I think this is my favourite episode of the pod so far. I love hearing about your story with Avril. She’s always been my number one (so it sucked that Spectra got the boot on the avril episode of NAR lol) and like yourself each of her albums has significance to a time in my life. Have you ever dived into her B-sides or unreleased music? Would love to hear your opinions! Not a fan of the Christian vibe in Head Above Water but I like the simple campfire churchy stuff like Two Rivers and Temple of Life. Alone is also a BANGER. Lovely pod Lymp. Always love hearing a more personal pod. Although I’ve got to know, were you subliminally thinking about The Avril Lavigne Replacement Conspiracy Theory when you were coming up with Hoax?! I was weirdly obsessed with Madonna when she released Confessions on a Dance Floor. I think it was because all the popular music at the time was crap college bands playing indie music and, as I was figuring out my gayness, it felt like a release. It was what I needed to hear: ‘No, you don’t need to listen to Mr Brightside, there’s a pop icon sampling ABBA right over here.’ I went off her massively and didn’t like her albums much after that, but I have to admit when it was in the news she’d been in intensive care there was a part of me that was absolutely shook because she meant so much to me at a formative time. Always up for more content from you dolls, and I do always like hearing Nova on here as a guest. Your joint pods from lockdown were fab.

Love these pods where you talk about things which have had such a huge influence on you, your life, and your drag. The only pop star I would have as like my main girl is Marina (formerly Marina and The Diamonds), wonder what you think of her? - I love her older stuff so much! I could listen to you and Nova bicker all day long. As a Canadian I have to be honest, I never jumped on the Avril train, and hated Nickelback even more, so when they got married I just remember thinking, yeah, that’s what we fucking need right now. As an old I appreciate what she was doing a lot more, and even Chad Kroeger and his big Tic Tac veneers don’t bother me like they used to. Fuck Bieber though. Non merci, au revoir forever.

When “Girlfriend” came out I was like “who is that preppy cheerleader?” Seemed so far from her sound. Think she gained a bit more of a following by becoming more commercial though. One very random question, you don’t mind, are we going to see Fallowla make a return to the channel anytime soon or no? I think the last video she was in was the cube, I must say I do miss her…

I’m really enjoying the extra content from you girls. You get told this a lot and I’m sure I’ve already said it but your videos and podcasts are my comfort. Oh my god, just had to say your parody of Colleen’s ‘apology’ was fucking fantastic. My god Colleen’s video was a train wreck from go to O & I feel like will go down in history as one of the worst youtube responses of all time lol. She almost made the previous shitty youtuber apologies look good 😂.
