...and it's a SHOCK FULL OF BOOF! ...starring Nova Seapussy. So we know that Gen is obsessed with Disney. She's also been talking about the new Little Mermaid movie for as long as we've been teased with the bastard thing which feels like about 5 years. This past Thursday I begrudgingly took her to see it and almost feel asleep but we'll talk.

They've announced the live action remake of Moana, and I'm scared. Thoughts on the upcoming Barbie movie?

Hello dolls! I don't think I'll watch this new film, The Little Mermaid is one of my least favourite Disney animations, although Ursula is my second favourite villain (Izma is my number one) and the original songs are masterful. I just think this current moment in Disney of remaking the animations into live action utterly boring. We don't need the villain to have a sad backstory to justify their actions. I'm terrified of what they'll do with Moana - such a recent film to be remade - and Snow White. PS: about Miss Janice Pepper sneezes - one of my cats (that looks a lot like her I might add) was a sneezy kitten too. No snot, sometimes a bit of eye goo, but he would sneeze all the time to the point that we thought he could be allergic to my dogs. It got better as he got older.

Hey Lymp, great pod as always. Went to see this at an advanced screening with friends the week it came out and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We had all been fans of Halle for a while now, so seeing her absolutely kill the role. I personally loved the song/singing parts they added to show off more of Halle's voice, because otherwise she quite literally only would have sang one song if it was like the original. My friends and I all preferred this version than the og, even if there were some low moments. To touch upon some other things, Ursula probably had a new stipulation of Ariel not knowing she had to kiss Eric because it highlights her want for exploration and makes the romance more happenstance. Also the reviews you saw for the film were most likely impacted by review bombing from racists mad at Ariel being black, so I wouldnt take them at face value. Thanks again for the pod, keep up the great work!

This is completely off topic but I thought this guardian article would pique your interest and be a good topic for a pod! “One October morning in 2004, a woman took the lift to the 21st floor of an office block in north-west London, bought a coffee in the cafe there – then opened a window and jumped out. No one knew who she was. Do they now?“ https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/may/27/the-wembley-point-mystery-who-was-the-woman-who-jumped-to-her-death

Amazing podcast, did you guys ever watch 13th Kingdom? Amazing series

I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve seen many interview clips of Halle talking about the film and what I’ve seen she’s been casted very well she gives complete Disney princess vibes 👑 Great pod🫶🏻

Hey lympy been a minute since I heard a pod (thanks poverty😪) but I’m back 😅 anyway I’m so happy to hear a good Beeeerf™️ I will say being in southern Ohio all I’ve been hearing is people bitch about Ariel being played by a person of color and I have been in very loud and often time impolitley in opposition of people who were bitchin about Ariel because fuck off with that racist shit around my head, I actually had to leave a conversation because I wasn’t having it with a woman who used “a word” to describe the new Ariel. I cannot believe the actual audacity of people these days. On a lighter note I Hope to see a faves and shitters soon those are my favorite, love to hear you and Nerva Seapussy complain🥹🥹 I’ve missed hearing your cool menthol voice radiating right down my ear’ooole and cannot wait to hear more😭😂💜💚

Hi dolls! Thanks for watching this movie so I don’t have to! My favourite thing about Disney is the subliminar messages that they used to put in the old movies, there are whole websites dedicated to those. There was one in the Lion King VHS (and I confirmed this at a friend’s house once) at the scene when young Simba sees the spirit of his dad in the clouds at night, before the clouds part you can read the word “sex” in the sky. And in The Little Mermaid, when Ursula is marrying the prince, the priest has a huge boner. There are loads more but these two really stuck in my mind.

hi lymp, random question that I always forget to ask, where does the full of it intro music originate from? Was it pilfered off the internet or did someone make it specifically for full of it? Love you both thanks for making my walk to work more enjoyable with each pod xx

Went to see little mermaid a few days ago and was sat on the same row as a women with her two young kids. After the shark scene near the start of the film, the kids were terrified and didn't want to watch the film every time they went underwater, especially when Usular was on screen. Felt really bad for them because they were clearly not having a good time. I also think the runtime was way too long for a kids film anyway

I fucking love mermaids and I adored all of the underwater scenes. McCarthy was perfectly serviceable with what she was given and Halle was absolutely precious! However when she got to dry land to hang out with (the blandest!) prince, i yearned for death. During the god awful ‘rap’ number, my boyfriend took his hand out of mine, leaned away from me and said ‘I’m breaking up with you’. Can’t say I blame him but it was all worth it to see so many high-budget mermaids on screen

The cinema I went to had an official Disney survey booklet, it was like filling out my GCSE's, but I overall agreed with you both, Halle Bailey was the best part by far, the new stuff was the worse stuff, the new songs I thought were dreadful and when I saw Lin Manuel Miranda on the credits I just rolled my eyes. Ursula was complete wasted potential, I think comparing her to Will Smith's Genie was completely right. The CGI wasnt up to standard, especially the faces pasted on in the underwater scenes and the very obvious sound stage when they were surfacing above water, but I think making a live action of an underwater film is an uphill battle, you cant just colour the background blue and remove gravity. It was a 6/10, but for children and families perfectly serviceable. My argument as always is just why, the original still exists and is great, just watch that.

Noo, I wanted Nova to stay and keep talking forever! this discussion made me realise I’d quite enjoy listening to a Full of Beef of you guys discussing Disney stats, trivia, scandals, tragedies etc. If you ever fancied!

Anonymous

I think the reason Nova may have been expecting Ursula to be played by a POC is because in the 2017 TV/stage play they got Queen Latifa to play her. She did a phenomenal job and I remember seeing in a behind the scenes clip that she burnt her hand pretty badly on a prop and continued on without missing a beat. I haven't seen the live action remake and nothing against Melissa McCarthy, but I feel like Queen Latifa would have absolutely killed it.

I LOVE the Little Mermaid and have since I was a child. You know, typical American white girl and all.

I'm not a big Disney fan so I had no plans to see the little mermaid, but my fiancé is dying to watch so I guess I'll be taking them to see it soon lol. I can't stand Awkwafina and like Nova I'm also sick of Lin Manuel Miranda's musicals stylings, so I'm not looking forward to that 😭 but Halle's version of part of your world is incredible and I'm excited to hear Melissa McCarthy sing poor unfortunate souls. Thanks for another great pod, I love that we've gotten so many Full of Bœurfs recently

Ahoy Lymp. Wonderful pod, as expected. Long time listener, first time commenter. I have not seen the remake but just wanted to touch on the casting of Ursula. A lot of older Disney villains were coded as queer and non-white, especially Ursula. In the original little mermaid she is the only non-white character and she’s the villain. Disney may have cast McCarthy instead of a drag queen or non-white actor to negate or deflect criticism over using queer/non-white people as villains again. I’ve tried to find a link to a good article about queer coded villains in Disney but couldn’t find one what wasn’t giving “Ms Mojo” vibes. Love ya chick!

Halle's singing was truly incredible, and I think Melissa McCarthy's was a bit of campy fun. The moment that scuttlebutt song came.on however I rolled my eyes so hard, it was so Lin-Manuel it was pretty much Hamilton. My friend and I had two different opinions on the sisters. I thought Javier got busy with a different mermaid from each of the seven seas, but my friend says there was only one queen. Who knows honestly

Now I love Nora but her fascination with poop toys his not normal. Love you gals, great pod as usual Lymp!

Anonymous

I have little to no interest in Disney films or remakes but I'd go see it if someone else wanted to go. Have to say it's been really sad seeing all the hate and vitriol thrown at Halle Bailey for being cast though and only makes me want to go and see it more

padam padam, you know? Great pod as always, Lump and Ar Nov xx A couple pointers: 1. how dare you say that about Pretty Girls, that’s a bimbo anthem 2. i absolutely agree about the whole vertigo thing, for some of the underwater scenes made me feel SO dizzy and sick 3. i also agree with Melissa on soundtrack vs the movie performance - my drag performance was high energy, high facial expressions, etc and seeing the movie after that was like night and day (not to toot my own horn) 4. Halle was casted perfectly for me, she played the role so well Can’t wait for the next pod xo

Hey Olympia! Thanks for another great pod. Currently, your dulcet tones are in my ear hole while in Greece. Working on my first archaeological dig. Going through the back catalogue of FOI as I dig, wash pottery and process finds. Keep up the good work!

p.s. is there another murder suicide one (as Nora calls it) in the pipeline? 😁

Anonymous

P.p.s whatever happened to Millicent? She used to comment on every pod and we haven’t heard from her in a while.

Anonymous

I really enjoy listening to Nora, love her insights. I feel its a nice dichotomy in her persona, as sometimes she seems like a dumb bitch (endearing) and others a very assertive gal. Range. Also, just saw the community post asking what kind of content we'll like to see and i rather leave my comment here cause for some dumb reason i have my whole ass government name on YouTube. Anyways, I really like when you do game shows, quizzes (sporcle was a lot of fun) and that sort of things, because your responses, commentary and the editing are always hysterical, even if the idea of the game is quite simple. So I've love to see you girls playing just anything, charades, geoguesser, Google feud, etc I don't know how you feel about tier lists, but i think it can be quite fun when people put an effort in naming the tiers and just rant and talk shit. Maybe one ranking your older drag looks??? a good jumpscare

I feel sorry for Melissa McCarthy we’ve seen a photoshoot where she paid homage to Divine & looked presh! I have just finished my makeup qualification for tv film and theatre and our tutor after seeing the photos had us do an Ursula day it was the campest thing. Although you could tell the gays in the room understood the assignment with Glasgow drag queens all prancing around modelling Ursula looks

NotThatLinda

I assume Millicent has left the cult: her old comments on the Discord say "Deleted User" and she's no longer listed as a subscriber here.

Another Beefy pod so soon? Thank you and Nora. No, I don't "give a fat dump" about the film, but your discussion was nevertheless entertaining (I'm sure I'm not alone in liking hearing you (and Nova) talk about anything): I'm glad she enjoyed the movie, despite its obvious shortcomings. Your leaky hot tub won't cause a tsunami: you'd have a Poole pool! Speaking of J.Lo's bosom, yours looked magnificent in the toys vid: I so want to send your tutorial to an otherwise immaculate Aussie queen I adore. I agree wholeheartedly about Ursula's disastrous makeup: I've no drag experience, just decades of regular slappage, but it astounds me that that work ever saw the light of day. As someone said on Instagram, never mind being sisters, those wonky brows weren't even Facebook friends. I was surprised to be learning 'girly' slang from drag queens: where does "getting a wide on" come from? Hilarious! The actress playing Vanessa was Jessica Alexander, a (nearly) 24-year-old, English bisexual LGBT-advocate (thank you, Wikipedia). Love your work, dolls x

When you mentioned the word 'sex' hidden in the lion king that reminded me of the talking head stone bust puppet thing from 'art attack'...it totally has 'sex' disguised in its hair. Thanx for the pod :)

Bad girls aired in South Africa on Mnet religiously ( it also repeated on Sunday Mornings which was super odd and annoying as a kid wanting to watch cartoons)
