Cocaine Bear is a 2023 American comedy horror film directed by Elizabeth Banks very loosely based on the story of the 'Cocaine Bear'. Nova and I saw this last week and it's a solidly daft B-movie outing that we can recommend for a mindless afternoon. What is isn't however, is a faithful adaptation of the true story about an American black bear that fatally overdosed on cocaine in 1985, which is worthy of a whole other discussion.

Loved the pod! I'll also be at the London Eurovision Party tonight. Cannot wait for it especially as I couldn't get tickets for Liverpool. Zero idea of what I'm wearing.... If I don't see you hope you have a fun evening dolls!

God I didn’t realise how much I’d miss the pod until we didn’t get one last week! Been binging old eps to fill the gap. I was asked to work on Cocaine Bear last year but another film starring the wonderful Florence Pugh clashed with it and I just couldn’t not work with her. I remember getting the script and just thinking what the fuck is this. Had no idea that it was ‘roughly’ based on a true story. Anyways, thank you as always for the amazing pod, streams and unhinged vids with Charlene zirconian beige…

Helllo you gorgeous girls!! Been a while since I’ve dropped a comment but just want to say I’m still loving all of these POD’s and are a weekly enjoyment to listen to in my ear holes. Meow! Absolutely in hysterics watching the video with Char and the group chat reveal to the world! God Char is a mess ain’t she… haha. Meow! Meow! Meow! And a big thank you for all the amazing Eurovision content recently as none of my friends are into it, so it’s nice to have this place to get my Eurovision fix!! Love ya all! Meow!

The person In the cinema during avatar who shook their head at the cocaine bear trailer with the thought of “ they’ve run out of ideas” does know they’re in a theatre to see a retelling of fern gully and Pocahontas with 9 ft blue people right? I mean it’s not that serious. Some people will like that kind of move and some people won’t. Let people enjoy what they enjoy. What a stupidly enjoyable movie

I absofruitly loved cocaine bear! It's exactly what you got on the packaging. Stupid stupid camp fun (and gore)..... What were these people expecting?? Ingmar Bergman or Martin Scorsese?? I would love to see you react to the mockbusters, if anyone is a fan of the youtuber Danny Gonzales, he has made reaction videos to Ratatooing and What's Up. On a side note, I joined the Patron a few months ago and have been loving the cult lifestyle, but I have a question about the birthday shoutouts that I was hoping you or someone could answer? How do we convey to you when our birthday is? Is it a patreon thing in the settings or something? I joined before my bday (March 11) but didn't know how to let you know??? Regardless, I love you jerls!

So Kentucky won’t bat an eyelid at the cocaine bear officiating weddings but they’re getting their knickers in a twist about drag and LGBTQ+ freedoms… ok work. Not trying to conflate but christ, get your shit together lmao. Ps - said it a million times but loved seeing you at London Eurovision Party. The boots might have been painful but they looked exquisite! X

Would love to hear a podcast about the Grizzly Man documentary by Werner Herzog. Very bizarre but absolutely fascinating. Quick run down: (warning this goes on a bit!) A man named Timothy Treadwell believed he had an affinity and understanding with bears and would go and live with them for a couple of months each year. One of the most interesting parts is that he would film his time with them, which makes for unbelievable footage that you feel like you shouldn't be able to access and can't quite believe - he interacts closely with them and gives monologues to the camera about how he feels he is able to be part of their lives. He did eventually meet his death at the hands of one of these bears, as did his girlfriend who was with him for one of his stays with them. Horrifically, the audio of their deaths was recorded as he had left the camera rolling with the cap over the lense. This is not shared in the documentary, however we do view Herzog listening to it with headphones and we see his disturbed reaction. The documentary really explores the extent to which we as humans should draw a line between us and nature and a lot of discussion is to be had about whether Timothy overstepped this line. It has a beautiful soundtrack, which is unusual for a documentary, Herzog's narration is chilling and poetic, and there is plenty of Treadwell's unbelievable footage. It even goes up to what he had filmed hours before his death. There really is a lot of emotion in this documentary and I recommend giving it a watch. The tagline is "In nature there are boundaries, one man spent the last 13 years of his life crossing them." Apologies for the long comment! Xx

Omg, I was actually listening to this on my bike and you saying my name like tan mom made me snort laugh and almost fall off 😂😂. I haven’t seen Cocaine Bear yet but it seems like a good time. Like you said, you know what you’re getting going in with a title like that. Not every movie needs to be bloody Citizen Cane and a silly B movie is great to watch with your mates and have a laugh.

Hi Lymp, loved this pod. I commented previously about listening to FOI on my first day of placement. Times flown cus as of tomorrow I start my second! Just coming on here to download a ep before so I can listen to your dulcet tones on the tube tomorrow to once again calm my nerve. Would you consider doing a pod about chatgtp? All the love x x x

Another good one, thanks Lympi. The "When Bears Attack!" advice is pretty useless, given it requires accurate species identification in a high-stress situation. Better advice for a bear encounter? Assume a crouched-down, bent-over position, so that you can kiss your arse goodbye 💋

Hi lovely!! New to the pod and currently going through all of them from #9 on. I haven’t seen cocaine bear but I remember hearing about the story when listening to a documentary on Kevin Ives and Don Henry. They were two boys found murdered in the 80s on railroad tracks in Arkansas. Very creepy. and sad. Love all you do!!

Grizzlies look like tanks with fur and it fucking freaks me out that bear worship occurs in indigenous groups across brown bear habitats. Think Midsommar but it’s northern Japan and the bear is too real (Sankebetsu brown bear incident). Bodies, plural, found in its stomach postmortem. No!

I just have a metal picture of the bear saying in the Winnie the Pooh style voice “I’m off my f**king tits” after it eats the cocaine

I went to the sam ryder concert in Newcastle a few weeks ago and it was one of the best nights of my life. I would highly recommend you go if you get another chance xx
