Meryl Streep is universally regarded as the greatest actress of her generation - or most peoples' generation, if you weigh it up. As an actor, she's been nominated for an Academy Award 21 times, which is 9 more than the second-highest record achiever, Katharine Hepburn. What is it about Mezzy Streeps that gets people in an absolute frenzy, this intrigued caller asks?

But who is more iconic, Meryl Streep or Meryl from The Traitors

Muriel Strepsil

Your memory of a movie with lots of faces in a cabinets is from Return to Oz. It is a very “was that a dream” type movie, it’s effing bizarre. Love Meryl, I first saw her in Death Becomes Her. I used to watch it on repeat as a kid (I was an odd child) Know you said you hadn’t seen it but shoutout to Florence Foster Jenkins. Such a cute movie with a brilliant performance from Hugh Grant, who I think has become such a piece as he’s gotten older. Agree on Web Therapy, Lisa‘s best work is annoyingly hard to find. Had to buy comeback and web therapy on Amazon Prime Video. Well worth it though. Cheers for another fab pod 💖

I'd just like to point out that you forgot to, in a Meryl's breathy voice, utter the name that is... Jacqueline Follet 💅

Love Meryl as much as I love this pod! Hard agree on your recommendation of Web Therapy, binged it last year and it’s so hilarious. In terms of favourite Meryl I would recommend post cards from the edge super fun but also a good amount of pathos, and Shirley MacLaine is delicious in it. X

Yes Meryl! Love her, I think she has the same kind of gravitas as Cher tbh. Another actress that I think reads similar to Meryl is Olivia Colman. Having said that, I think “Into the Woods” is possibly the worst thing ever made (not just in film) ❤️

Meryl, my mind goes straight to her in Mamma mia x

If you did the next pod about Viola Davis the intro song should be that horrendous BAFTA performance by Ariana DeBose… i need to know your and Nova’s reaction to it, it’s so horrendous it’s actually broken through the barrier into extreme camp 😂 ANGELA BASSET DID THE THING, VIOLA DAVIS MY WOMAN KING. Even better if you’ve also seen Jamie Lee Curtis going OFFIT in defence of Ariana 😂

My fave Meryl is The Deer Hunter. I remember being obsessed with it when I was 15, I did a presentation on it in English (they couldn't give a shit!) . It's definitely not light and fluffy, it's dark and emotional and poignant as you like. (I know we're talking about Meryl here but Jesus Christopher Walken in that was heartbreaking). Unsurprisingly she plays her part excellently. It's a long, sit down and focus kind of watch but it really stayed with me. P.S. Love you and the pod as per bloody usual, listened to this episode whilst I was having a battle with my hair in the bathroom xx

ooooooooooooooooooooo

I LOVE Meryl in Doubt. That whole cast gives an insane performance. Hated The Hours though. That’s the dullest movie I’ve ever had to sit through

I am soooo glad you brought up the clip of Meryl on the Graham Norton show. I don’t know what it is about that spot but it makes me super happy. I legitimately watch it weekly. “I wanted to be named Patti, Kathy, or Debbie!”

Listened to this whilst I waited 2 hours for bus replacement bus service (Was kick off the train in the middle of bum fuck nowhere without a means to go anywhere as all the trains got cancelled) I think the first time I was fully aware of who Meryl was, was when I went to see mamma mia (the live musical) and my sister said how no other Donna (that bitch she plays in mamma mia) could compare to Meryl Streep. I asked who's that? My sister was astounded I had no clue who she was and gave me a detailed description of ever role she ever played on our way home.
