Cher is one of the most beloved and celebrated entertainers and gay icons we've ever known. It's perhaps weird then, that I spend this pod trying to pinpoint exactly why 7-year-old me would find her so enthralling, especially when my first exposure to her wasn't even the real deal but a lady impersonating her on Stars In Their Eyes.

When I was younger I would get Cher mixed up with Pete Burns which looking back I can definitely see why because they do share a similar look and are both icons. Great pod as usual doll 🥰

There must be a huge shared (Cher'd) experience for young gay boys growing up in the 90's because I also lipsynced to Cher's Believe on the family's home camcorder. I had her makeshift spiky wig with plastic bits sticking out remember that?

Your mother just sounds like a dream, lucky you having a supportive mother who let you just be who you are ☺️

Been here two years and have never made a single comment.. and to top it off, a comment without substance..yay mediocrity..anyways.. 🙃 Have you ever thought about doing a parody of the Welsh Twins? I think you and Nova would be hilarious on that! Love you! xoxo 🧝🏻‍♂️

Great pod’ - launched me back into 90’s nostalgia and growing up. If Luth keeps commenting you’ll need rename the pod’ “Full of fur”. Speaking musically, I was attracted to Cher’s music purely because it sounded different (at the time). I found it always had a ‘throwback’ feel. You’d have Brittney, The Backstreet Boys, Aqua … and suddenly Cher would come in the radio and it was like another world. All time favourite song is ‘Gypsy, Tramps and Thieves’. Cher, for me, is the same sound world as Ellie Greenwich and Nancy Sinatra. But I think she’s so distinctive because her singing has such an extroverted personality and ‘sit-down-bitch’ attitude (something I think most younger gays want to express, but can’t … well, at least those of us born in the 90’s). And I think it’s also because she’s a belter - you have no choice but to join in when you hear Cher sing.

This pod has taken me on a voyage of Cher adoration. I'm almost 30 so am very aware of Cher, but I've always thought that I didn't like her music much, with Believe coming instantly to mind. However, I decided to put her on Spotify and there's a tonne of songs that I've forgotten about and that I love. I think Just Like Jessie James is my favourite - I've always enjoyed American Country music so I think that vibes with me. I think Cher is a gay icon because she's unapologetic, a badass bitch, and she's a supporter of the LGBT+ community. She always speaks her mind, no matter what hot water it lands her in. Plus I think we all love when she slates Madonna (unless you're a Madonna gay...). So thanks for igniting my Cher era! Have you listened to the podcast on the Missing Crypto Queen? It's a similar story to Gerry Cotten strangely... or not strangely at all... All pods for that are on Spotify if that's of interest!

Love the pod, I think my first exposure to Cher music was when the drag race girls did the Woman's World video. I would like to defend her performance in Witches of Eastwick as that hair alone deserved a Grammy. With regards to dressing up I did the exact same thing - what is it with baby gays and Witches? I once tried to ride a "broom" (mop) and ended up breaking it and the stairgate by crashing into it at 50mph going down my granny's staircase on it. God I hate kids.

My favourite Cher moment is this bizarre coked up megamix with David Bowie where they only stay on each song for about 10 seconds 😂 https://youtu.be/KPlN8RBP-Ws

Amazing pod as always. Not going to lie when I read the title I first thought you had wrote 'Char'! Also agreed with your depiction of Cher in Moonlight... A dull Italian woman that just walks about NY eating in restaurants!
