Looking For Mike is a 2016 documentary short directed by a Canadian man named Dylan Reibling. Alongside a private investigator, Reibling chronicles the search for the true identity of his co-worker Mike de Bourcier, who had planned his own funeral a week before dying of a heart attack in 2002. He soon realises that the man was also living under a stolen identity.

It's one of those little gems that you stumble upon accidentally but it's a fascinating look into identity fraud and the casual reminder that you might never really know the truth about the people around you.

I'm devastated beyond words that I missed the Clue pod! It is one of my top 5 favorite films for sure. It came out when I was a little kid and my parents liked it so I watched it a ton growing up. Every time I saw it, I was able to catch a new joke or two that had flown over my younger head before. Fantasy casting: Steve Martin as Wadsworth and Kathy Bates in a cameo as the cook! I watched the Looking For Mike doc and I think it was really interesting when the sister said that almost immediately after her brother left their father had a heart attack and died. I wonder if Mike/Jason heard about that and didn't want to go home and face the grief of his family, so he took off instead. And maybe why he wanted to preplan his funeral, knowing his family history of heart disease? Anyway, it's another weird timing coincidence, and really sad for the family to have to deal with a death and a disappearance at the same time.

What an interesting pod. I’m always careful to listen to the spooky ones during the day because I’m such a chicken 😄. But this one wasn’t actually scary. Just strange. An idea for your 200th episode… would be an hour or two with the lovely Meg Anne and you guys could just talk about Sugar rush all day or any other show that you both like and Nova hates.

I can’t begin to tell you how much hurt I have for that guys family. Maybe he’d found out he had something like cancer which could have caused the Which later resulted in a heart attack? It’s more sad to me than anything. This poor man must have felt really lonely to have arranged everything for certain, but still very odd he had to be dishonest about his past. You had mentioned that you hated musicals last week and girl….. me fucking too. But I also just have a thing where i get really uncomfortable when someone sings without my knowledge or just out of random. Like music is one thing but I really hate when someone sings when I’ve not asked/paid for/ or streaming it. Hence I hate musicals for that reason and I’m already having to pay attention to the plot I can’t be arsed to decipher a song Also you’re terrible for that very apropoo song at the beginning 😂 love you doll! And if you’re reading this as a beeerf, hi Nova, have you decided to say fuck Wordle yet? 😂💜💚

Trying to catch up before episode #200, I'm listening to #124 right now, I think I can do it. I wanted to say how much I'm enjoying this podcast! It's getting me through a tough time and I really appreciate it

Looking forward to the Divine pod! Another icon that I’m surprised there hasn’t been a pod for is Amy Winehouse. Is she on the to do list?

Another great pod doll! You have to check out a channel called BarelySocialable. He did a whole video about the process of changing identities, going ‘intentionally missing’ and he goes into detail about another case very similar to this one! Hope you enjoy!

Oh I forgot to tell you what video it is! It’s called ‘The Book Tied to 75,000 disappearances’

I think “Chinese Whispers” is one of those sayings that has racist origins (as it associates Chinese people with incomprehensibility), but we are so far removed from the origin that most people don’t think about it in that way. In the US, we have soooo many of these phrases sadly, that are often taught to children, that we really need to weed out of our lexicon. For instance, “Long time, no see” is an old saying making fun of the way Chinese immigrants or Indigenous peoples supposedly spoke English. There’s some more really horrible ones like “sold down the river” or “peanut gallery” or “gypped.” 😬
