Fyre Festival was a fraudulent "luxury" music festival slated to occur in April and May of 2017 in The Bahamas. Fronted by Ja Rule and a moronic schlub called Billy McFarland, the festival was supposed to launch an app that would provide a service enabling the super rich to book music acts at their own private orgies.

When a greasy array of influencers and other undesirables arrived at the "festival" and were greeted with emergency UN tents in lieu of private villas and cheese singles in place of Michelin-star catering, it was immediately clear that the whole thing was a sham from the word go.

Ok, but I would love if you continued this general theme of failed events. Would love if you talked more about Tanacon or something like Dashcon, or that new When We Were Young Festival, that seems sus. Now I must ask when Novympiacon is happening, cuz I'd love to purchase the villa package. Another great pod Lymp, good job.

I didn't go to Fyre Festival but I have friends who are considering going to When We Young Fest, which is all sorts of suspicious, least of all it being produced by the Astro World people and this seems like damage control. Also regarding liars, I find the most compelling ones that start to believe their lies. Have you heard about Sir Alfred? He is an Iranian man who lived in Paris' airport for over 18 years because he lost his papers. However it turned he was able to recover them and leave the airport but by the time that happened he became something of a minor celebrity there and began to believe he was a British man named Alfred. The youtube channel Atrocity Guide has a fascinating video on him.

When I saw this podcast title I immediately thought "oh god are we talking about this because of the When We Were Young festival that everyone is comparing to Fyre festival" 😂 The amount of chaos, confusion and misinformation that the When We Were Young Fest has created is absolutely insane. That being said I am going to it, got tickets for the first Saturday show, so I'll give you a first hand report if it is a Fyre Fest esque experience 😂 Regarding Fyre Festival for what it's worth any festival that involves private jets, private villas, other people having so much control over the individual experience (airport pick ups, drivers, etc)… I know is way above my budget for live music. It takes a lot for me to go to a festival anyway, I was a warped tour kid so I really don't need luxury, just a good lineup. It would be quite the sight to see some of those luxury Fyre fest attendees go to something like a Warped Tour, I think their heads would spin. Also shout out to Scotland, my best friend and I go to the Highlands every year (minus the last 2 because of covid) and it truly is heaven on earth!

Around five thousand dickheads who spend their lives on Instagram being models and influencers and getting paid for it would have paid between $1,000 and $12,000 to attend. Once there, they were treated to disaster tents, being stranded on an island in the Bahamas and given salad, kraft singles, and bread to eat, served out of a takeout foam container. To quote Kath when she and Kel at the airport ‘’How the other half live.’’

I’m so glad I’m not the only person who felt some kind of way about Don’t Look Up, left me feeling annoyed with the black comedy aspect which wasn’t all that funny, but mainly the existential dread after watching the film knowing full well that being in the awful world we live in right now, certain things in that film could happen for real and we wouldn’t be able to anything about it. Anyway that’s my 2p on that, another great Pod! Love nothing more than thinking about how much of a flop the festival was, and most of those rich dickheads being scammed out of money they probably inherited/didn’t really work for 😂

Here’s something you might like and weirdly sits at the intersection of your last few pods. Bitcoin, Cruise ships, and Rich dickheads. A few libertarian crpytobros bought an old cruise ship to create a new ‘floating city free from government and laws’. In the end it turned out running a cruise ship is really hard and they were caught out by very tricky things like “where is the food coming from?”. https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/sep/07/disastrous-voyage-satoshi-cryptocurrency-cruise-ship-seassteading?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Funny you ask if we knew anyone who went to Fyre, my cousin did and was interviewed for The Independant about it! (https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/fyre-festival-attendee-gives-their-account-of-horrific-experience-a7709191.html) Is it weird I'm oddly jealous she got to go, I think it would be such a story to tell when you got back from it?!

Did you write some jokes for Blu Hydrange on UK vs The World? (weirdest title choice) Jk i know you can't say. But how do you think your patron Charity Kase is gonna feel when she hears you didn't finish her season...Jk im pretty sure she slagged off the season aswell. I stopped watching it right after Scarlett got sent home; i'm guessing that's when you stopped watching too

I gasped several times during this pod. How bloody stupid can someone be? The idea of a cheese single between some bread as the food is so hilarious and outlandish that it’s now my new weekly meal. Thanks for another great pod as always!

Was such a good day to be on Twitter when this was happening. Also love that your podcasts are slowly gaining a "This non-alcoholic bev tastes like crap" segment. x

It’s astounding to me that something like after Festival must’ve been reviewed by hundreds of people and businesses before it actually happened and not a single person thought “hang on this is all too good to be true what a load oh shite”. Now I have a question. Have you ever done an FOI on desperate housewives? I have a distinct memory of listening to you talk about it but I can’t see it anywhere on the patreon. I know sometimes you remove videos and stuff for a variety of reasons so that could be why. Either that or I just dreamt it.

As soon as you started talking about compulsive liars it reminded me of a girl I met during the height of MySpace - she lied CONSTANTLY but her most heinous lie was uploading a photo of herself with a bandage on her head with a black eye (make-up), where she said the reason she hadn’t been online recently is because she’d been forced to have a lobotomy😭
