Kenneka Jenkins was a 19-year-old American woman whose body was discovered in a walk-in freezer in a Chicago hotel kitchen in 2017. In a similar set of circumstances to the Elisa Lam case, the story her death and of what potentially happened to Kenneka inspired a slew of Internet conspiracies that would shift the focus of blame onto the mysterious behaviours of her friends and the hotel itself.

I think the hotel was trying to be ‘’professional’’ or tyring to police the situation by having control over who was allowed to have access to information about the hotel and the incident. But this backfired big time, I would hate to be in the mother situation or anyone situation when a loved one goes missing. What do you think about Drag Race UK vs The World?

Another great Pod as Always. It’s so scary to think that your brain can become your worst enemy when you’re so vulnerable. All we can hope is that Kenneka wasn’t in pain or stress when she died. It’s ridiculous how many stories about a young girl dying and the police not lifting a single finger in terms of helping the family.

Podcast about a girl freezing to death - starts the pod with a song with the lyrics “so cool and statuesque”. Okay

An answer to your question, here in the United States at least where I have worked it there's always a concierge available at the desk 24/7. It was a pretty fancy hotel down on the water in an area where most Microsoft employees, Google employees, ect... live, so it's pretty upscale but there was always someone there to help u to your room.

I really think this was a tragic accident that ended worse than it should have. I take Topamax for migraines, and it can be a pretty serious drug. You can't just start taking a full dose right away, you have to slowly build up to a full dose over the course of several weeks because of the side effects that make you feel drunk. If Kenneka wasn't taking it and took a full dose and then had alcohol on top of it? BIG Yikes. And they nicknamed it "Dopamax" for the cognitive side effects. It makes you feel like a zombie sometimes. If the hotel was near the airport I could kind of excuse them for not noticing her at that time of night. Hotel airports are busy 24/7 because flights come in at night, so it's possible that the staff may have been busy with other guests when she walked through the lobby. HOWEVER, there is no excuse for the hotel not to immediately check the security tape when her mother asked them to. My job has cameras in every possible place, and although they might not be able to show someone off the street footage without police intervention, they sure as hell could get a description of someone and look at it themselves to see what they can see. That is pure laziness and negligence on the part of the hotel employees and there is no excuse for that.

I remember when this happened! It was all over the news! That poor girls life was taken because of pretty preventable circumstances outside of her own control, it goes to show that parent/child relationships need to have more open dialogue about the more dangerous things, maybe, someone could have intervened. I am fully blessed to be gay and do not have to worry about my child doing the things I’ve done. I remember being 13-15 going to the “skating rink” (lovingly called the Skank Tank) and I wouldn’t have even entered the building, it was me and a group of friends outside in the graveyard by said Skank Tank smoking cigarettes, huffing air duster, smoking cannabis, drinking, and doing the sex etc. if I was getting up to all of that, I cannot even BEGIN to think what this generation is doing. I won’t even begin to complain about how absolute shite the police are about missing people of color, but it is absolutely fucking shameful. Anyways I always look forward to these. 💚💜💚💜

It is really scary when you end up blackout drunk and have to rely on others to keep you safe 😬

To answer your questions about hotels and security; I work in a medium-size (roughly 300 ish rooms) hotel which is a big brand in the UK (you can probably guess the company...) The only kind of security we have is the camera live feed in the office behind reception. There are 3 different people on the reception through the day-night and they only really take a look at the cameras if they're in the back having their lunch or something. The cameras only show the reception and car park and the only 'security' we have are the receptionists themselves. I don't know how other hotels or bigger versions of this hotel handle it but we've never been able to give Police good footage whenever they come to us about something that's happened in hallways or even outside. I just thought I'd let you know that lol. I loved the podcast! ❤
