Who even cares anymore. They never bothered me in the first place because of how utterly batshit they are but understandably, the church dubbed "The Most Hated Family in America" have a long history of offending people with their venom-spewing approach to religion.

I remember first encountering WBC in like 1992 on the Ricki Lake show. As a young gay, I was duly outraged, but I laugh now at exactly how much fucking everybody hates them, all their in-fighting, etc.

Hiya Doll xx I keep forgetting to comment on these podcasts as the listen to these at work... awh the perks of the glamorous life of working in a fridge. But anyways enough about my life story! Anyways I completely agree with you in regards to the Westoro Baptist church when you said that you aren't even offended by what they say, like of course its fucking horrifying but the eagerness at which they spew hatred towards everyone and the manner in which they conduct themselves alters the perception of them. I personally just end up tuning out all the death and the slurs they use and just end up staring at their eyes during interviews thinking what the feck is going on inside their heads. Its eerily fascinating. Also I FECKING loath when Christians hide behind the idea of having faith in religion as a means of deflecting any arguement against their interpretation of the bible. Cause guess what? the bible is a piece of fucking media that is open to interpretation, especially when it has been filtered through so many different languages and edited by so many different people. So what beliefs you choose to interpret from the bible is not based on faith, it's what you choose to take from the text. Like the bible only mentions gay people a handful of times , but bangs on about being nice to your fellow humans countless fucking times but Catholics have free reign to be arseholes because their churches interpretation of a book says that fruity people are dickheads..... okay religion rant over. I'm gonna go be gay and practice some witchcraft ( hilariously my local priest is very nice to me the only trans girl in a village of about 200 people) bye doll xox

It's so scary the way we can be brain washed by anything. I used to be in a fundamentalist church. I left over 7 years ago. It still took me years to get over the programming, constantly thinking "What if they're right, what if I am now going to hell". It does take ages to reprogram your way of thinking. I wasn't born into it, so those poor cows growing up in Westbro must have it so hard coming out of it all.

i’m absolutely in love with the podcast lymp. got a puppy for my birthday and every walk i go on i have an episode of full of it on and it’s such a happy escape so thanks doll. although kinda annoyed at you, as whilst i was listening to your dulcet tones my pup, bali, was nearly kidnapped 😭 but he got back to me. i was just so wrapped up with the story about char being pushed out of the guys house. it was a DAY. can’t lie when you and nova were doing the lockdown series (which i loved) when you said “and we’re talking about…lady gaga” i turned it off 😂 don’t hate me, just lady gaga, love just no. thank you for these as they’re great! have a few ideas on what you could talk about, if you’re interested? 🤍

Thanks for taking the time to read that huge ass comment I left, and for being so nice. Honestly, being a teenager in the nineties was wild, I’ve loads of stories, good and bad, that sound like they belong in an episode of Hollyoaks. 😅. Always good (maybe the wrong word?) to hear how the Phelps world is getting smaller and slowly falling down around then. Hopefully there are more redemption stories of people escaping and trying to do better.
