Heaven's Gate was a UFO religious cult that existed from 1974 to 1997 when the majority of its followers infamously executed their 'exit plan' in the form of a mass suicide. It's teachings/brainwashing and particularly the bizarre imagery associated with their group suicide uniform have become one of the most widely known examples of the dangers of cults.

With regard to the names bestowed on the cult members by creepy af leader Marshall Applewhite, here is a comment I've plucked from the comments section of the 'Exit Interviews' conducted by the members shortly before they checked out to board their spaceship.

"He was a music teacher and the names he gave them (to psychologically separate them from their past lives and identities) all end in 'ody' -like the word melody. He took the name of the highest note as his name, "Do" and his former partner, who died of cancer 11 years earlier was "Ti."
