Also, fun fact: In the first episode of this season, whilst we never saw the real Simmons, there is a scene with her in! Early on May comes into Coulson's office when he is on the phone to an agent, saying to use dead drops insterad of payphones and to try and move up without taking risks. So it is most probable that he is on the phone to Jemma, as in the opening montage we see her making a dead drop (fast food wrapper in a bin). Only caught this titbit after a few rewatches but its nice that they add these little touches!

I was one of the people saying Ward shot from a distance/did the same to Fitzsimmons. Won't say exactly why now since I don't wanna spoil anything coming up, but I stand by it and think Ward isn't being honest with what he says to Fitz here. That being said I think your position is totally valid. Part of what is great in this show is the complex characters that we don't always get 100% information on why they behave as they do.
