Hi everyone! ^w^

Here’s another shoutout for a game I think you might like! This time we have another platformer created by our friend Yuudai!

Disclaimer: For the sake of full transparency, Null has helped Yuudai get set up with a basic framework in GameMaker. And we are not getting compensated for this project in any way.

Yuudai in “Screwing with Time”

Yuudai in Screwing with Time is an action-platformer with a focus on exploration, puzzles and fast-action combat, inspired by my all-time favorite game, Tomb Raider!

  • Follow the development on my Twitter.
  • Consider supporting the game on Patreon.

My goal was to capture the essence of the original Tomb Raider games as much as possible in the limited 2D space.

The game focuses on the three things I think are what makes up the pillars that those games stand on:

  • Free exploration: Yuudai is a very athletic fox and he comes equipped with many moves to help the player navigate through the levels.
  • Fluid Combat: Translating the combat from Tomb Raider was a big challenge while working on this. With 3D models you can mix animations together because everything is based on a skeleton and maths. With 2D sprites I had to cut the character up into multiple parts, animate them independently and then make them fit together.
  • Traps, Treasures and Puzzles: What are ancient ruins, tombs and dungeons without some nasty traps protecting the shiny treasures hidden within?

And all of that, neatly wrapped into an interesting story that leaves you at the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen next, who you will meet and who will stand in your way!

The game is going to be kind of tough! I want the tombs and dungeons you explore to be very dangerous. You can die easily, but at the same time it shouldn’t be so punishing to ruin the fun - kind of in the spirit of the classic Tomb Raider games as well. So expect mean traps all around and never trust a shiny item that seems a bit too good to be true! :3c

If that sounds exciting to you, please check out my game and follow its development!

Kiba Snowpaw

Greetings, fellow adventurers of the digital realm! 🎮 Kiba Snowpaw here, your friendly neighborhood Ice Wolf, 🐺 hailing from a galaxy far, far away, a frozen world that sparkles with an eternal frost. I've roamed the boundless expanses of video games, delved deep into the vaults of anime and manga, partaken in epic movie marathons, and kickstarted a multitude of indie games. Yet my quest for supporting the fantastic endeavors of talented developers is as relentless as my own pursuit of the perfect game. I've spent countless hours, and indeed thousands of dollars, pouring my passion into this craft, while also maintaining the precarious balance of life as a lone wolf, taking care of my father, and navigating the challenging terrain of living with depression since I was 15. And let me tell you, it's been one hell of a ride! 🎢 Now, in the realm of supporting indie developers, I've encountered a unique request from a fledgling game developer. This is a tender young shoot 🌱 in the gaming world, a promising creator with a vision. However, dear friends, as much as it wrenches my frost-bitten heart, I must decline this particular opportunity for collaboration. "Why, Kiba?" you may ask, your curiosity piqued. "Why the sudden frosty stance?" ❄️ Allow me to paint the picture for you. As a gamer with over three decades of experience, I've been on the front lines, engaging with a plethora of games that range from masterpieces to those that leave much to be desired. This experience has cultivated a keen eye for game design and a preference for high-quality content. I take pride in offering my support to indie developers, but I do so with the expectation of a return on investment - a game that fills me with joy, pride, and a sense of fulfillment, knowing that my support helped bring a fantastic creation to life. In the case of this young developer's game, I find myself in a challenging situation. My intuition and expertise tell me that this game, in its current state, is not quite there yet. It lacks the certain 'je ne sais quoi' that would make me want to leap into action and support its journey. 🕹️ Now, before you grab your pitchforks and torches, thinking that old Kiba is being too harsh, let me clarify. This isn't a snarling growl of disapproval or an icy howl of condemnation. This, my dear pack, is a sober assessment from a seasoned gamer who has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of game development. I see potential in this young developer and wish nothing but success and growth for them. It's just that in this particular instance, I'm not the one to help shepherd their game to the finish line. However, my decision not to support does not equate to an absence of hope for this game. Far from it! I eagerly hope others in our expansive and diverse gaming community will rally behind this developer, offering their support, their feedback, and their expertise. After all, it takes a village to raise a game, and I firmly believe there is a village out there for this one. Remember, my fellow adventurers, our choices in supporting indie developers define the future of gaming. Whether we rally behind a game or choose to sit this one out, our actions help shape the industry and its many vibrant, creative endeavors. As we partake in this journey, let's always strive to uplift, encourage, and inspire each other. After all, isn't that what being part of this amazing community is all about? Kiba Snowpaw, signing off! Keep gaming, keep exploring, and above all, keep howling at the moon! 🐺🌕 #Gaming #IndieDev #KibaSnowpaw #SupportIndieGames P.S.
