Hi Space Adventurer!

Here’s the latest installment of Kincaid!

This build focused mainly on polish and quality of life! Not much new content, so if you missed or passed on the previous build, this is the perfect time to check it out now.

Visual Polish, Quality of Life Features and Bugfixes

Here is a laundry list of changes, additions and fixes of the build. ^w^

  • With the previous build we started working on a new area which we put a lot of effort into in terms of visual fidelity, making full use of the new art Fabian made. In this build, one of the main focuses was working towards bringing the rest of the jungle levels up to par.
  • Lots of new art and polished up art - Some placeholder art was replaced and new art has been added.
  • Intimacy Options - If you don’t like the short cutscene intros before an animation starts, we have now added an option for you to skip them. Later on there will be a third option for this setting which basically plays the full thing the first time you encounter an enemy and then it will skip it on subsequent encounters.
  • Made Kobold Hunter projectile more readable.
  • The game now saves after the intro so you don’t have to rewatch or skip it if you die before reaching the first checkpoint.
  • Polished up the player ledge climbing animations that head parts of her body still incomplete - only visible when hanging from short ledges.
  • Added some moody environment particles.
  • Save system has been added back into the game with an option to pick the starting point when starting a new game in an empty slot.
  • Fixed slimes ascending to heaven if you punch them while they are hiding on the floor or on the ceiling.
  • Fixed Kaha’s new recruit unable to damage you in the epic boss battle.
  • Fixed an audio bug where Kincaid’s damage SFX would not play, only her “Ouch” sound.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could start an animation with an enemy while standing in thorns.
  • Fixed a bug where lewd noises would continue playing after skipping an animation.
  • Fixed a bug where falling off the village would cause damage - it should just reset the player’s position.
  • Fixed a bug that messed with the unlocked gallery entries
  • Fixed a bug that would sometimes crash the game when fighting flying insects
  • Fixed some camera issues
  • Fixed bug where some of the collision boxes were visible in some of the levels
  • Fixed a bug where the respawn manager wasn’t cleared out properly when returning to the main menu to start a new game or loading a save, causing enemies not to spawn in if the player stopped playing in the room he is now starting from.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes a cutscene would not play.
  • Fixed a visual bug where the threesome invite would linger if you skipped the animation when it shows up.
  • Fixed a bug where the pause menu could not be opened in some of the levels.
  • Fixed a collision bug where sliding into tight spaces would keep Kincaid stuck in the sliding state, forcing the player to restart the game.
  • Fixed a visual bug in the Kobold animation - some pixels were wrong, causing the background to bleed through during the climax - this must have been in the game since the beginning or at least for a long time and we only just caught it. xD
  • Upgraded the game to the latest version of GameMaker

Gotta say, the last update I'd played was last year and I am loving the new visual direction! Everything looks so much more polished and vibrant. Few extra things to commend you all for: Combat feels really nice, slightly floaty but the extra punch from each hit makes it feel agile and powerful which is perfect imo. Enemies feel they have weight to them, especially the sabertooths, brilliantly done with them. Love the clear enemy progression and diversity with the kobolds and bugs, they're really fun to fight! Loooove Kaha's theme in the intro, even if the intro is a bit too much "tell" compared to "show" (dialogue can probably be trimmed a bit, imply things more) the personalities are charming. One thing I think might be a great addition would be to better communicate to the player which doors open from where (maybe a lever rather than them opening automatically?) and also add more bonuses to the starting area to encourage exploration. Also the shower quest starts off completed when you begin the game fresh, just a bug to watch out for : ) All in all I think your team honestly have the best E-game in terms of polish I've ever seen! Says a lot that the game is fun to play even when you're not horny

when it comes to the game I only need the latest version downloaded in order to play it right? Or do I need to download all the older files starting with the first one as well because I try to boot up the 2023.04 build but it keeps showing this ERROR in action number 1 of Create Event for object : Error attempting to load wad file with unexpected size 107849561 szFORM 134217748

That is curious! Did you unzip the whole ZIP file and then ran it from within that folder? It sounds like you might go into the ZIP file as if it was a folder and try to run it without unpacking it first.

Oh wow thank you so much for the encouraging words! :D I agree to everything, Kaha's scene does need serious trimming, it is a bit too long and tries to do too much in one story beat. The quests as of now are marked complete because we haven't reintroduced them yet into the rest of the new levels, but that'll be fixed in one of the upcoming builds.

I'm having a problem running the game. whenever I try to run the .exe file for the game I get an error that says "MFPat.dll not found", and "MF.dll not found" I've tried reinstalling but nothing seems to work.

I did a quick search and found this fix. I hope it works: Run the sfc /scannow System File Checker command to replace a missing or corrupt copy of the mfplat. dll file. If this file is provided by Microsoft in your version of Windows, the System File Checker tool should restore it. Reinstall the program that uses the mfplat

Huh. No luck, previous versions of the game still work, however. Thanks for the tip though!

That is weird! I'll send a support ticket to the people who are making the engine that we use.

Hello Cookiedraggy, Your latest Kincaid Build 2023.04 caught my attention and pulled me back into this fantastic world you've created after an extended break. I must say, you've come a long way! 👏🎮 #KincaidBuild Having been unable to support your efforts due to the impact of COVID and some crazy power prices, I am thrilled to be back and I'm excited to witness the improvements you've made. Your commitment to polishing the game has not gone unnoticed, particularly with the art enhancements and the bug fixes that you've carried out meticulously. Adding the game to Steam and using my PS5 controller has immensely boosted my gaming experience. However, I felt that a map feature could greatly improve navigation, especially to keep track of explored and unexplored areas. If there already is one and I've missed it, my apologies! 🗺️ Your introduction of the intimacy options without the need for failure is truly commendable! It adds a new dimension to the gameplay and enhances user interaction. I can't help but appreciate the touch of autonomy it provides to the players. However, as an earnest suggestion, a bit more art following the text for better emotional resonance would be a welcome addition. Perhaps you could take inspiration from 'The Forest of Love' or include minor animations like you did with some yiff scenes for improved player engagement? The yiff scenes, though interesting, is a little short, but I understand that the manual setting could be a potential solution to this. In terms of the gameplay experience, I plan on adding it to my newly created PC gaming channel. As I've recently divided my content across three channels for better organization and viewer navigation, Kincaid will find a home here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKXyOvh6vRt5seHQqKruxWA. I can't wait to share my journey with my audience, and I'm sure they will appreciate your work as much as I do. Keep up the great work, Cookiedraggy! Your dedication to polishing and improving Kincaid shines through with every build, and I eagerly await your next installment. #SupportIndieGames #PCGaming #KincaidGame 🎮🔥" From an analytical perspective, your decision to add a lot of visual polish and QoL improvements, in my opinion, has had a largely positive effect on the game's overall experience. It reflects your commitment to creating a refined and enjoyable gaming environment for players. A few points for future consideration could be an included map feature and some pacing adjustments in certain scenes for a richer experience. But overall, your game is definitely on the right track and has the potential to engage more players in future builds.

Hey Kiba! Thank you so much for the detailled feedback and I am happy you like where the game has beeng going! The map is definitely lacking, especially with how big the game world is going to be. It is one of the features we are working on right now and we want to improve on the previous one we had, allowing players to put down their own map markers and giving rooms a big more recognizable shapes, instead of the Metroid-like colored squares. Also happy to hear you like the Intimacy feature! Feedback on it has been mixed, but that was to expected. But I am always happy to hear from people who react positively! ^w^ I am not quite sure what you mean by more art following the interaction, but I will check out your suggestion! Please send me a DM when you release the footage, I am happy to give you a retweet, but I tend to miss stuff on Twitter, especially with the current state it is in I spend less and less time on it. x3 Cheers, thank you for the support and good luck with your channels!
