Strata-Cut Animation (Patreon)
Content
Another animation process post today while I wrap up this extended song.
Stratacut animation is one of the most mind-boggling forms of animation I've ever come across.
The process is similar to sushi art and those tiny erasers that always looked a little off.
See how they're made by taking long rolls of each shape/color and creating a long tube that slices individual images? Now imagine bending and manipulating each element while creating that tube to plan out an animation. That's Strata-cut, and my tests above hold no candle to the work that exists using this method.
Here's a picture during the making of the clip shown in the video above (used in "Now and Then") The shapes that make up this particular one are comprised of cones that become dilating circles and long spaghetti-like strips that travel around as dots!
Home for the holidays, I used a stop motion app on my phone to photograph the animated sausage. Each slice was delicately removed as the sushi rod was inched closer to the camera.
I'm gathering some more behind the scenes from that video to share on here soon along with some music experiments I've been working on.
Wheels are turning and very neat things are in motion.
Much to come!
