American’s (regardless of age) preoccupation and obsession with dogs is bizarre. I swear no country on earth cares as much about their house pets than we do. I regularly see and hear about go fund mes for dog surgeries, medical treatments etc. I know people who spend thousands on pet insurance and medical treatments to prolong the lives of their dogs for even just a year or two. It’s obscene.

The euthanasia dog lady totally could've just done what she needed to do with her dog and dealt with the shame and guilt privately, but because she thinks (like we all do) that everyone is thinking about her and her story at all times, she had to address it publicly.

This has the very interesting consequence that when we Americans think about humans, we either place them in a late Capitalist no-society or in the Stone Age as creatures barely above other sentient life (see Anarcho-Primitivists, New Atheists, Liberals, and other unpleasant people). Traditions and so on, which are tbf mostly a product of agriculture, are completely alien to us, it is way easier to understand (or certainly to quantify and pretend we do) a market or a zoo than it is to grasp an actual human society.
