Even in the 17th century, the lady of the manor would be intimately involved in running the show, and a great portion of her upbringing would be precisely to pass on these vital skills from mother to daughter. What I'm getting at here is that even if the lady did not legally hold the purse-strings, she made many if not most of the day-to-day adminstrative decisions. Barry Lyndon illustrates this quite well. When Barry himself tries to call the shots, absolute disaster ensues. Only his mother, and Lady Lyndon, can keep accounts in good order.

As a guy what you all said about "female pain" around the 58 min mark, put an image in my head that is laughably typical of my ilk, but I think maybe there is something there. I was thinking of that scene in Avengers: Infinity War at the end after Thanos did the snap thing. Captain America is sitting on the ground next to the body of Vision and he looks broken. Black Widow comes running up, and when she sees Vision she immediately grabs her stomach. When I first watched this movie it was the only scene that made me leak the pain juice. I got to thinking on it after what you said, and I think maybe why it got to me is that it is (to me) such a KNOWN gesture you will see when a woman experiencing sudden emotional pain. I think of like a child falling over, or when women see a mother going through grief. Idk about that whole "maternal instinct" thing. Just not my area. But when I think back on the moments in my life where some horror got passed around, I remember seeing women doing that, and men usually repeatedly putting their hands on their head, like they are both trying to keep whatever feels are in there from just spilling out all over the floor... Ok, idk, there is that. Again, you all are great, just keep doing it.

Moral ambiguity was wonderful to hear as I struggle being a libra and see the good in everything. I don't subscribe to one interpretation thus I confuse myself and piss off lots of people. Also the part about last be being a burning lust like a vanerial disease or a putting roots down.
