As a full foot of snow blankets my home, I thought a throwback to warmer weather would be fun. I shot my first short film (Nyarlathotep) between '98 and '01, so there are easily 25 years between these two photos. We shot in the Desert of Maine on a hot summer day. The tour bus would pass us every 15 minutes, telling the sorry tale of farmer Tuttle and his poor farming techniques leading to the erosion of the topsoil and the revealing of the huge sand deposit. After an hour and a half my good natured friend Michael Kristan (playing the archeologist) muttered "fuck farmer Tuttle...".

Incidentally, Lovecraft knew of the Desert of Maine and mentioned it in a letter as a partial inspiration for the 'Colour Out of Space'.

Addendum: I took this picture of the farmhouse floorplan in case anyone wanted it for use in a Call of Cthulhu adventure.
